Net spend doesn't mean no spend! You can't continuously stockpile players, you usually have to sell some. We spent quite a bit on some of the best championship players to get us up, so they held more residual value than Huddersfield or Brighton's squads, and therefore there's no surprise we generated more from player sales. The only interesting stat is how much we have spent in the last 5/10 years compared with other clubs, not how much we have spent vs how much generated. Overall we have tended to buy just enough quality. This season it looks like we have bought some absolute guff from the bargain bins though. Lee Charnley proudly declared that our squad was much stronger... what a tit
Not even sure that swapping Rondon / Gayle was a good idea. A third relegation under Ashley is what I predict for Newcastle United this season. You can't run a Premier League club 'on the cheap' and expect to compete. Mike simply thinks his Sports Direct tactics will work in football. Newcastle United is the unfortunate Guinea pig in his doomed experiment.
Rafa will see out his contract ....................... but he will not sign a new one. Ashley is doing to Rafa what he is doing with the sale of the club ....................... offering something but making it almost impossible for the other party to accept.
Rondon is definitely better than Gayle. Muto looks cack so far though. I think the two CB's are probably decent but overall we haven't strengthed enough in an attacking sense and the squad is thin on cover.
