I see that Fifa are looking to introduce blue cards into football matches - to be used by referees for more serious / cynical fouls & dissent by players and managers....The card comes with a 10 minute 'sin bin'. ..Personally I am in favour - but - I would actually go a stage further. I have always felt that the yellow card is not a proportional or sufficient punishment for every qualifying offence...For example, 'simple' time-wasting seems 'inoffensive' compared with a cynical ' hack' of a player running in on goal - yet - both offences attract the same card...Clearly, the latter 'foul' should receive greater punishment...... but - (( and this is where I contradict myself )) - Whether it's simple time-wasting or blatant thuggery, it amounts to the same thing - cheating ! As you all know I hate cheating.... If I had my way, every time a player cheated, he should receive any colour card - AND a stretch in the sin bin....... I bet it would stop a lot of cheating and harassment of the referees. Sadly, the downside of sin-bins (( which I think are inevitable )), is that the process will slow down the game even more than at present.
I've seen mainly negative comments on the idea. Even one of our own past players making comment in regards it could lead to injury due to sitting in a sin bin for ten minutes then having cold muscles etc (something like that anyway). I do take onboard the players views, but there has without doubt been times in football, where a sin bin would have been better than leaning towards two yellows and a sending off OR where a sin bin is appropriate because a player or team tactics are just wasting time. Too many times these days players acting as if they've been shot (crocodile/alligator rolls), that would be my first target and diving in the box.
Oh well just seen some ideas what they will be used for, so scrap the above - and two blue cards will be a sending off lol...don't we use yellows already for that, clowns!
