Are they on the way at your local football club. There's a short article on the BBC website saying the authorities are looking at giving it a go to replace yellow cards. They are also looking at making speaking to Refs during the game a Captain only option. At least they are thinking if making changes to our beloved game. Watch this space as they say.
No to sin bins. I think I remember a new rule from a few seasons ago where they attempted the 'captain' rule. I just think it was ignored. I dont think they should change anything regarding the basic rules on the pitch. I think players should just be disciplined more harshly for certain things. eg. pulling an opponents shirt should be an instant red card.
Sin bins???? Picture the scene. Last game of the season versus Man U. Scores are level Sunderland just need a point to stay up. Last 5 minutes. Lee Cattermole puts in a rather innocuous trip that was barely worthy of a yellow card never mind a sin binning. Referee points him towards the dugout and Man U score a winner whilst Sunderland are down to 10 men. Uproar! Any sin bin rule would just be creating a rod for a referees back. At least giving a typical yellow card is like a buffer zone for a referee where he can make a one off decision regarding a punishment, one which wont greatly and obviously effect the outcome of the game. A dodgy sin binning offence could have repercussions like the one I described above. Sin binning would just create bigger controversy.
Anyhow, Cattermole would be either A) Injured or B) Already sent off. On a serious note, sin bins... ffs.
Daft idea imo. Won`t stop referees being conned by the diving cheats. Far too many soft and conned yellows as it is. What about accumulated yellows leading to a ban? Would it be accumulated bins instead? As to captains only I don`t think there`s anything to stop referees doing that anyway. I seem to recall seeing a referee taking the captain and the offending player to one side and making the situation perfectly clear. The ref chased everyone else so it can be done. Anyway, if anybody starts mouthing off the ref should just tell them to shut the **** up. I think they`d be better off ironing out inconsistent refereeing. Same game, same foul, different players, one gets a card. Irritates the hell out of me that.
I'd be more interested to hire ex-cage fighters to be referees, I'm fairly certain that the little sluts who mouth off to the likes of wimpy Mike Dean, would think twice about getting in the face of somebody capable of snapping them in half in under 5 seconds.
It would be a great idea if the standard of refereeing was higher. As it stands it's a dreadful idea because referees are utterly dreadful.
The thing with yellow cards is they are given out but invariably dont punish the team getting the card until much later when persistent offenders end up getting a ban later down the line. The team fouled against get no advantage. Sin bins if introduced and the authorities would have to deal with inconsistent refs first, then instead of cards being handed out for very little then refs would have to see a 'proper' foul before giving the player a 10 minute sit down. (Last nights Rodwell tackle would fall into that proper category). I can see lots of problems for our present crop of refs but as this idea is probably 2 years away then the authorities have time to sort out our substandard refs as they are now. Is it a good idea, not unless it is properly thought through but can we trust those in authority to get it right.
by local are they talking grass roots? It's over 5 years since I played. But you only needed one ****er reffing who liked to flash the red because of their power trip and you'd lose a player for the season and sometimes forever. £60 per red card at Sunday league level just means people don't pay it and **** the whole thing off. Mind you, I don't think sin bins are the answer. Just drop the stupid fines for being carded.
