Really carnt work him out, I've decided he's not a goal scorer he works hard and gets about but what gets to me is if the ball comes over his shoulder he can bring it down no problem but if someone passes it to his feet that's when he struggles 9/10 times the ball always pops up so his 2nd touch is to bring the ball under control. New contract or not?? Not
I am begining to suspect that his best position might be behind a front 2 and as good a player as he is, it's the same problem we had with Nick Barmby. We dont really need that. Release.
Despite all that, he was still one of our best attacking threats last night. Unfortunately there was no one in midfield to win the ball and pass to an attacker. Bruce ****ed up with team selection last night. Watford were decent in the second part of the first half - but we looked much the better side when Evans and Quinn entered the fray. You have to earn the right to play, and for large parts of the second half of the first half we didn't do that. Sloppy clearances, failure to impose ourselves and break down Watford.
Although I understand that players are both a specialist and have a general play element to their game, we do look at this level for a pronounced specialisation and for Simpson that is as a Striker. His pass to Boyd against Huddersfield was simply sublime and his work-rate is excellent, but where are the goals? Not so long ago it was widely reported that SB had had conversations with Quinn about his shortage of goals and that he thought he had more in him and I believe he had a point; to be fair I think Quinn did as well. That being the case then Bruce must be seriously frustrated by Simpson's lack of goals. Boyd cannot do it all, neither can Gedo, Simpson needs to chip in with some and history tells us that when they come they will be a rare treat and not a valuable and relied upon contribution. Whatever our final position, Simpson, IMO, does not have a role in our future. Decent guy and good larker, but not what we signed him for. Taxi for Simpson.
Simpson, at best, could only be classed as 'average' for this league. We need 'better than average' players if we are to make it in the EPL. There would only be a couple of current players who could perhaps hold down a first team place in the EPL. Consequently, EPL or Championship next season, I cannot see any possibility of Simpson having his contract renewed. I also believe that the Club will cut their losses with Proschwitz and pay his contract out. In the past it has been proven that the so called 'quality' players needed for a Club to compete in the EPL, are reluctant to join Hull City. We have done remarkably well this season considering that Matty Fryatt has been out since the beginning of the Season and Aluko for over half. Boyd showed his class with an excellent finish against Huddersfield whilst Gedo has shown that he can put the ball in the net if given the chance. Nevertheless, we are a few sandwiches short of a picnic, especially in the Goalkeeping department, and some teams have sussed us out and we have paid the price. There will be more than Simpson go at the end of this season imo.
Simpson was thwarted by their midfield last night. Every time he had to control a ball from our midfield with his back to goal the touch was alright but they were just on top of him straight away and he didn't have time to keep hold of it. He still did reasonably well with it I thought but he'd have been more successful against a lesser side.
You mean he would have been OK if they hadn't tried to stop him playing ? Isn't that the point His first touch was alright ?? If by that you mean it bounces about 10 feet then ok
I mean they did really well and his touch had to be perfect every time for him to keep hold of it. He did well to keep hold of it abut half of the time but you can't expect much more when he's immediately surrounded by 4 players. Because they scored the first goal they were able to just sit everyone on the edge of their box and there was no space up front for any bastard.
For me, he hasn't done enough over the season to earn a contract. His link up play is alright, but you can't play him up front knowing he isn't going to score. He isn't PL quality and has struggled for goals in a creative Championship side. I think we'll see him leave or be offered a one year deal if we fail to go up.
How many chances does the guy need .He works hard but there is no end product. One good pass against Huddersfield then he completely stuffs up when we had a break 5 on 3 .He has never really shown any real class ever since we signed him and he was poor in the EPL for West Brom .Division one is probably his best level .He has missed so many guilt edge chances over the last two seasons ,chances where it was harder to miss than to score. Time for him to move on.
An adequate back up in the Championship but far from good enough for the Prem. If we go up he has to be let go. We are going to need much better to provide goals along with Aluko, Fryatt, and Gedo if he stays.
He worked hard last night, but his first touch was terrible, he had to run ten feet just to get a second touch. I think he'll be gone at the end of season, whatever league we're in.
The ball bounced off him far to much for me, thought he was poor and his hold up play has got worse. He tries to dummy people without even controlling the ball first. I really think we do lack thal goalscorer especially now Gedo has run out of steam. He clearly needs some fitness work which he didn't get before he came to us.
Bit harsh as I think he can do a job for a Championship team , not a Championship team aspiring to promotion though
I see Boyd making that role playing off the front man his own and if that's the case then that there front man HAS to be a natural finisher which Simpson clearly is not. When we have Aluko and Fryatt back fit, he'll be lucky to make the bench even if we're in this league next season. O/T slightly, even just typing Boyd and Aluko in the same post has made my mouth water a little.
67 points from 37 games. As that appears to be all but 3 games we don't really have much opportunity to do a comparison.
