His contract is up at the end of the season and he said he wants a new one speaking of the special bond he has with the club. Off the pitch he has got his head down it seems. Not heard any bad headlines for a few years and on the pitch he has been brilliant for us. In the last few weeks Ricardo has really made right back his own but Simpson has proved his still can offer something to us If he is happy as back up then I would be more then happy to give him a new deal
He is still a competent right back. He isn't a wing back, never has been and never will be, but defensively he's sound as long as he gets support from the midfielder in front of him. Too many times he was exposed by Mahrez's lack of support and suffered for it.
He probably felt with Mahrez he couldnt get forward. If Simpson was a little bit better going forward him and Ricardo could be interchangable like we have done with Fuchs and Chilwell aswell as Schlupp and Dyer in the past
Happy to keep him as back up. I prefer him to Amartey although Amartey has age on his side I guess. He’s good to bring on and push Ricardo further on when we want to be solid like the other day
Very very solid right back. Defensively one of the best but very very limited attacking. Has a role to play.
I've made no secret that I think his time is done here but those promising youngsters of ours are still just promising youngsters and it looks like we want to develop them instead of bringing someone else in so another year as 3rd choice backup would make sense.
