Danny Simpson believes QPR should do all they can to keep Joey Barton, and says the midfielder can inspire Rangers' push for promotion to the Premier League.
Danny Simpson played alongside Joey Barton as Newcastle won promotion in 2010.

Barton has played in all five of QPR’s games in league and cup this season, despite being widely expected to leave the club after a controversial two-year spell at Loftus Road.

The 30-year-old spent last season on loan with Ligue 1 side Marseille, and had hoped to rejoin the French side during the summer, but no such move has materialised.

Danny Simpson: “We were saying in the dressing room [after QPR’s 1-0 win at Bolton on Saturday] that this is what it was like at Newcastle.
“The team were together, we all knew what to do. We dug in and worked hard.''

“Whatever people say about Joey, on the pitch he will give you 110 per cent. He was tackling, winning headers and when he’s on the ball he can create things.''

“I have been in this situation with him before, we both know what we did then and we know what we need to do now.''

“It has started the same way it did at Newcastle.''

"At the start of the season everyone is still trying to find their feet, but once the window closes we will know the squad that we have and we will be able to get on the ball and grind out results.''

“At the moment we are doing the ugly side really well, which is massive because we know that when we do that we will be able to create as well.''

“It is important that we are hard to beat, and not just as a back four or five but as a team.''

"I think we have been starting to show that over the last couple of weeks. We’re looking solid at the back and we have players who are going to score us goals.''

“In any team it is important that you work as a unit together and you build up relationships and partnerships.''

"Over the last couple of weeks we have been starting to do that. It is looking good for the rest of the season.”

There certainly seems to a good spirit in the team now. If Barton does go, it will be a big set back.

Fair comment from Simpson. The win at Bolton wasn't pretty. I pity any neutral watching it. But you could see the determination in our players and that's going to be crucial with a long and tough season ahead.

I seem to remember Newcastle weren't playing that well at the start of their Championship-winning season but getting results. We completely outplayed them for long periods at St James's Park but they nicked a draw, so there is a valid comparison...

Never thought I'd see that on a QPR forum!

After the Man City game I never wanted him play for us again, but now.............

Trouble is at Championship level he's a bloody good player and gives us a bit extra in midfield, many on here still are negative about him but he's a Ranger at the moment and contributing very positively. I view it that he owes us and if he stays to get us up we're quits...

Maybe HR getting rid of some of the mercenaries has helped Barton. I'm not a fan by any stretch, however, as posted earlier IF he helps us gain promotion then maybe it will be time to call it quits. When he got sent off against Man City I did lose any faint traces of respect I had from him but if he does his talking on the pitch......then he might just earn some of it back

    QUOTE
    Monday, August 26, 2013 at 12:31 UK
Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has praised manager Harry Redknapp following the Championship club's unbeaten start to the season.

The R's continued their strong opening to the campaign on Saturday with a narrow 1-0 win at Bolton Wanderers.

"It's a testament to the job that the manager's doing - and it's a testament to the lads in the dressing room that we put on the solid performance that we did," Barton told the club's official website.

"I'm enjoying my football at the minute, and I'm privileged to play with this group of lads. We're together and everyone wants to win - long may that continue."

if our success this season depends on Barton the odds the bookies give should reflect this immense, and unnecessary, risk.

Anyway, if our best midfield 4 contains Hoilett, Faurlin and the new Phillips, its a fight between Barton, Henry, Mbia, Diakite etc for the fourth central spot.

I think Barton will be the first name on the teamsheet in midfield as long as he's here. Mbia and Diakite won't figure much if at all...

    Don't forget Jenas.
He wouldn't get in my best midfield 4!

Good call Col. Barton wouldn't get in your best midfield? Mine neither. I think there is a good chance he'll get another loan out though.

Barton is not going anywhere now that Parker chose Foolham. Get used to it, he is here for the season. Personally, although he is a twat, he is playing for the shirt and doing well - long may it last.

The thing with Mr Barton is that you're just waiting for that red mist to descend again. We all know that it will.

    That Newcastle Feeling At QPR!

If Simpson thinks that I will take my shirt off and freeze my nipples in January/February then he is deluded.
