Who is the best left sided midfielder you have seen at our club? Currently i cant look past barnes, but coutinho has all the tools.

Coutinho has a long way to go to be mentioned in the same breath as JB but I can't see him playing left side often anyway. No doubt Barnes is the best I've ever seen but my dad still swears to this day that Peter Thompson was the best we've ever had <ok>

    John Barnes.

Coutinho shouldn't even be mentioned yet - He's obviously got bags and bags of potential and is an excellent player. But he's more of a modern day Number 10 and not a LW/LM. Although as he's such a good player he plays that position when needed <ok>

  4. Absolutely no debate whatsoever for this, it's got to be Øyvind Leonhardsen!

    Obviously it's John Barnes

JB by a country mile. Billy you can't compare Barnes and Thompson. Peter Thompson was an out and out winger and not a midfield player. The formation that he played in meant that he had no other duties than to stay wide and attack.

On the wing Thompson was far better than Barnes or Highway. He had pace, exquisite ball control, a good cross and fearsome shot. Thompson's major flaw was that he always wanted to display his mastery. He couldn't take his nose off the ball. He'd beat the Half Back and then go on to beat the Full Back. Then he'd turn and beat the Half Back again - just because he could - and only then would he cross the ball - by which time the rest of our forwards were marked!

Thompson did score one of the best goals that I've ever seen at Anfield. Against WHU we were attacking towards the Anfield Road end. Thompson picked up the ball on the halfway line. As usual he beat the Half Back but this time he cut into the box as he accelerated past the Full Back. From the edge of the box, whilst travelling at pace he let go this thunderous shot. The shot beat the goalkeeper only to hit the angle of crossbar and post and almost return along the same track that it had been hit. Thompson was still running but turned caught the ball again on the edge of the box and fired it back again - only this time into the net. I believe that it was at that match that the Beeb filmed an edition of Till Death Us Do Part but I can't prove that!(with a slight nod towrds another thread )

aaaah, those hallowed days when Harry Kewell and Oyvind Leonhardsen strode majetically over the hallowed turf.

I think it was more Coutinho was the first player I have seen in midfield with a left foot who has anywhere near the potential to be as good as barnes.

    Insua or Dossena.

Yeah I know more left backs but pretty sure they had games further forwards.

Justin Bieber. He used to be sent naked into the opposition changing rooms to sing and demotivate them before a game.

Yes but only during the last 2 years of his career. But like any little boy at the time I was truly speechless when I actually met him.
