To stay or not to stay, that is the question. See what he can do next season imo, I have a good feeling & can´t wait for the season to start. Also see what he can do in the up & coming transfer window. "UTF"
I say give him another shot - chopping and changing won't help us as the last decade has shown us. Here is a question for you - who was the last manager we had for 2 (or more) seasons?
Wrong - he had 1 and a half seasons before Milan got rid for Sousa. Clue - I wasn't joking about decade.
NP was here for two full seasons. 1 in league one and 1 in the championship where we lost in the playoffs to cardiff
2 full league seasons, but not neccessarily 2 full years. Edit: Oh wait, yes it was, just, 20 June 2008 - 29th June 2010
We arent far off from what we need to get promoted. We add to it and become stronger next season. Changing manager will be a backwards step
Explain how we will be weaker? Kane is no loss what so ever, Keane is very replaceable. So squad wise were no worse Nigel can recruit some more players and we can go again. Last summer we need quite a few players this year we dont. We need to strengthen a positions and add decent cover. Our main job is keeping hold of people like Kasper Schmeichel, Anthony Knockaert and Jeff Schlupp Whatever way you look at this season we have made considerable progress from the last 2 seasons
You answered your own question. Our main job is keeping hold of players like Schmeichel, Knockaert, Wood and King. If we fail then we will be considerably weaker But having said that, I didn't suggest we'd be weaker in the original post. Just that it's naive to suggest we'll just automatically get stronger. You're right in saying we're not far off from what we need. But we're also not far from having to totally start again should we lose key players.
Would I have been more optimistic (excited) about the season had we appointed MON or even Neil Lennon ..... probably Am I willing to give Nigel Pearson another shot ... yes Do I think it's naive to gloss over the end of the season run because of an earlier good run ... yes ... because probability would actually suggest that it is more likely that, with the same group of players, we would pick-up where we left off. But signings could of course change that (but so can transfers out and not necessarily for the best!) If Nigel is in charge at the start of the season (and note I'm not entirely convinced that the owners aren't speaking with anyone else currently) then I think they'll give him 10 games maximum with a minimum target of 20 points from those games - anything less and I think it's over for him ... and it's a formidable ask.
Surely if Pearson was going to get the boot it would have happened by now. I think if we are not at least top 6 after first 2-3 mths of season then his time may be up.
Keeping Nigel, whether it's right or wrong, will mean that he is the most under pressure manager in the Championship at the beginning of next season. Paulo Sousa was gone by 1st October 2010 and Sven was gone by 25 October 2011. If we get off to a bad start next season (which starts earlier) I think Nigel could be gone by mid September!!
That would be common sense - but you are talking about the most bizarre sport on the planet where owners don't tend to follow logic - at the most extreme Venkys - but you can also add Southampton and Reading to that list - Chelsea is a complete basket case - sacking the guy who has won the ultimate footballing prize - and Man City's concept of failure is also bizarre ... all of this is why I have the utmost respect for Dave Whelan the Wigan Chairman ...
Martin O'Neill linked again http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...missing-Premier-League.html?ito=feeds-newsxml @StanCollymore 39s Some bookies suspended betting on Martin O'Neil to be next Stoke City manager. If he goes at least it will put the rumours to bed once and for all
