1 Northampton... 42... 26... 11.... 5... 75... 43 ...32 ...89 2 Oxford Utd ........42... 21 ...13.... 8... 76 ...40... 36... 76 3 Bristol Rovers ...42 ...23.... 6 ...13 ...68 ...43 ...25 ...75 4 Accrington ........42 ...21 ...12 ....9... 68 ...47... 21 ...75 5 Plymouth ...........42... 22.... 8 ...12 ...60... 40... 20... 74 6 Portsmouth .......41... 18 ...15.... 8 ...68 ...38... 30... 69 7 Wimbledon....... 41 ...18 ...11... 12... 60... 49... 11... 65 That's the table with four games to go. Northampton are promoted. Portsmouth have a game in hand. Oxford and Portsmouth have unattainable goal differences, so we need to beat them on points. So if we win all of our games we are in the box seat If we are to finish second; Oxford need to drop two points . Accrington would need to win all of their games and score at least four more goals than us.l. Plymouth and Portsmouth would be out of it. Its a bit nerve bending innit?
Northampton must have had some fair slices of luck to have that many points on those figures. Oxford have scored one less goal and conceded six fewer, yet they are twelve points behind!
I think Oxford is clear. I think Accy's best chance of messing up is against Hartlepool away who have a good home record recently. Also they got to face Wycombe too who are fighting for a play offs place. Portsmouth have to face Plymouth, Wycombe and Northampton at home and Wimbledon and Hartlepool away. Plymouth have got to face Portsmouth away, Orient away and Cambridge away. I cant see Plymouth or Portsmouth getting top 3. Its out of us and Accy to join Oxford and Northampton. I fancy our games over Accy's but fair shout to Accy if they do it!
Yep, fair shout to Accy if they make the top three. I'm amazed they've lasted the pace. They've had a lot of bookings recently, so I wonder if they might have any suspensions coming up? Pompey and Plymouth will drop more points than us. Watch out for Exeter and Ollie Watkins, because they're on fire at the moment. I'm worried about our game with Exeter...
Well here's hoping Northampton are crowned Champions this Saturday. Cos that means Oxford may have lost!
The thing with Stanley is that they bolstered their ranks while they could in the recent transfer window bringing in guys from PNE and Reading, a shrewd move in my book, one of which I was very surprised that we didn't make. Seven or eight games to go and with the finishing line in sight surely it wouldn't of broken the bank to have brought in a couple of quality loaners to have helped with the final push. Speculate to accumulate and all that !
I don't know how Accers manage their finances on the home gates income. I don't think the finances came into the equation for Rovers. One of DC's main strengths is his man management skills. The squad respond to him with tremendous loyalty. If he had pulled in more loan players, he could easily have disrupted the squad's spirit. They all want to play and opportunities for the 'in and outers' are already at a premium.
I am not sure what the cut off date is for when counting yellows stop! Usually the start if April I think. Exeter worries me too. I wouldnt be surprised if they get the last play off place! Imagine the play offs looking like Rovers, Portsmouth, Plymouth and Exeter!
I too thought we should have got 1 or 2 players. But the Northampton result kind of showed we have the players already to get the results we need. I think we got enough about us to get positive results in the last 5 games to push for the top 3 places. DC probably felt that playing 4 of the bottom 5 yet to play, we should have enough about us. Both York and Dag & Red should be relegated before we play them. Stevenage and Yeovil must know they are safe. Its just Exeter for me that will be the challenge, although we are at home and have a fantastic home record at the moment. Thankfully we havent been hit with injuries to our better players so I think DC has made the right call. The international call ups though was the pain and I think we lost 3 points because of that.
At least it would all be pretty local! I would fancy our chances even if we do end up in the playoffs. Last year's experience must count for something...
How many "we should get promoted" threads does it take you gasheads to work it all out? It's hard to keep track. If only it was simple eh chaps. Oxford won't be thinking they are nailed on. In essence any one of four clubs could finish either second or third now. You can throw a fifth into that pot if they win their game in hand. This league throws up the most bizaar results week in week out and whilst you can look at the remaining games and think you know what points you will end up with the bookies being fat should tell you it aint like that. I will bet none of you expected Argyle to get 3 points today. I'll bet few if any expected Oxford to lose and Accrington to drop a couple. Could be anyone's turn next to fall over. Have to say I've learned over many years never to expect anything. I still hope but that's about as convinced as I ever get. May the best teams succeed.
You didnt pop back after the previous game where I was spot on with ALL results http://www.not606.com/threads/where-will-we-be.326759/. I guess you are here today because you won a game again? As you can see in that thread, it CAN be simple to predict
That's the thing though Captain Jack, it ISN'T easy to predict as yesterday shows. Your board has had a shed load of threads which in essence say how you will get your promotion. Looking at the games left and form etc. it's "probable" you will and the very best of luck to you. But, you aren't there yet and you are looking like the ugly bird at the Friday dance who is desperate when the last waltz is being played. Clearly most of your posters if not all have lets say been round the block a bit in support terms. You must know by now that this prediction lark is not as simple as looking at games left and guaranteeing a points total from them. A couple of injuries in one match, a sending off, any number of unknown combinations could blow the whole thing apart for any of the sides apart from Northampton. As I said, there are 4 teams and possibly 5 who might still fill the last 2 spots. In betting terms there is a favourite and a longshot but they are all possibilities. When the games are done and the dust settles the best 3 willl be the ones who are watching the playoffs with no nerves at all. So may the best teams win.
You are not as sensible as your name suggest! What we do here is no different to any other team who is challenging for promotion. If you check any of the official forums for these teams, they all will be giving their predictions. Of course injuries/suspensions etc can play apart. No one is suggesting otherwise. We aint stupid! Predicting is part of the game. Why else do the bookies make a fortune and those individuals who get it right with their bets? Just relax yourself a bit. Chill out. You will give yourself a heart attack. Its you that is looking like the ugly desperate bird here. You are a guest here and you give out what I presume is banter suggesting I aint mystic meg as I will get predictions wrong, then when I am right and give you banter back you then disappear with your tail between your legs not able to recieve the banter back! All of a sudden, you win a game - which by the way is a good result for us - and you pop over here again saying we cant predict things. Well sorry, I will continue to predict what I want and when I want. If I am wrong, which happens a lot then so be it. If I am right, then so be it as well. But you are also making out that we have made so many threads about we will get promoted which isnt the case. In fact most of us if not all of us has been saying we will miss out on automatic promotion. I predicted that teams would catch you and they have and that you wont get 2nd or 3rd. Looking at the fixtures I have predicted we have a great chance and on paper we have the best fixtures left. I still think we will miss out and Accrington will pip us to it and Oxford will still come 2nd. I have even siad I wouldnt be surprised that it will be a Southern affair in the play offs - Rovers, Plymouth, Portsmouth and Exeter. But for some strange reason you think we have made loads of threads suggesting we will get automatic promotion. Like I said at the beginning, you are not so sensible. Maybe read what people say and not just presume what is said based on the thread title. Now chillax and get over the fact that people can predict what they want and when they want. If you dont like it, our mod has given you an alternative, dont come here! I think its just bitterness towards me as all my predictions are against your team. Its not my fault that I have been right about your team!
