Nor is the £11m which Bates says is the overall figure we're spending, including Grayson's "overspend" of £2m, which is no doubt sourced from the Gradel and Schmeichel funds (which, by the way, were spent on Pugh and Lonergan according to Bates today).

Take a look at this for proof that it's simply not enough to be competitive.

Bates obviously thinks us morons will be blinded by the huge sum he mentions and think automatically 'hey we could get X and Y for £11m quid, that's great money Grayson's got, well done Kenny.'

But the truth of the matter is, a pot of £9-11m for WAGES, TRANSFERS AND AGENTS is not enough to compete. A woefully inadequate sum made even worse when you attach it to Bates' very public pressure on our manager to get promotion. Bates out.

The table above tells you how many millions each club were spending in the 09/10 season on wages. Leeds were spending 12m then, back in League One. In Bates' most recent programme notes, he told us that we're now spending a combined 11m (initially 9m at the start of the season) on transfer fees, agent fees and wages. So we've seen a reduction since being promoted, in other words, even though we've increased our turnover. And if we really are spending 11m this season, that's a comparable figure to Watford. Bloody Watford.

Look at how much the top clubs are spending, and ask yourself if we can really deliver the promotion Bates is demanding with the level of investment we're getting.

    Hope that makes it clearer!

Am I reading this wrong as I hate accounts of any sort, but Norwich and Swansea appear to have spent less yet they were successfully promoted to the premiership. I'm sure I'm missing something

Their wage figures will have risen last season - these figures are from the season before.

Also remember that ours isn't just for wages, but for transfers and agents too. These figures are just what the players are paid.

Unfortunately it's not always a case of what you spend, it's who you spend it on..... and let's face it, Grayson has sqaundered the best part of the budget on players that simply aren't good enough, and can't make the first team (or do make the first team but shouldn't be anywhere near it !)

If I were Bates, I wouldn't trust Grayson with millions more, as I have no confidence in his judgement (bar a few exceptions) in terms of player ability. I guess the next week will tell it's own story.

I am anti Bates the sooner he is out the better however those figures are a tad damaging for Grayson too. Yes it is **** that we only invest 52% of the turnover but looking at the wages if Swansea and Norwich can do it....

Someone pointed out to me today that at the start of this transfer window 7 of our starting 11 were attracting (some rumours I know) interest from premier league clubs, Howson, Snodgrass, Clayton, White, mcCormack, Lees, Lonergan - Johnson has been a hit with Norwich and we lost Gradel and now Howson. We should not be in this position really, why is Grayson not getting the best out of what he has got and why is he pissing about with the likes of the vast amount of fringe players that we have and continuing to waste wages.

But as I say, this is just for wages, and Bates has confirmed we've now got a combined budget of 11.75m for wages, transfer fees and agent fees. Norwich and Swansea both spent a couple of million in transfer fees last season plus no doubt more than us on wages. So ours has reduced while theirs grew in line with their divisional status. We're still running Leeds United as we did in the division below. No wonder Grayson can't achieve what Lambert and Rodgers could.

Because when he plays the first team every game he gets shot down for tiring them out and not rotating his squad enough. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Likewise he has to bring in average players to appease the fans, otherwise he gets shot down for not trying hard enough. But when you've got a wage cap and not enough money to spend on fees anyway, those players aren't going to be promotion quality.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a 60% of turnover wage cap in the Football League, or is it just for Lge One and Two?

Somma on his way back and we had Keough on loan did we really need to sign Forssell?

A quick scouting mission and a few recordings would have said no don't touch Paynter?

Rachbuka - Don't even go there, it wasn't until a few days before the season started that we got Lonergan, imagine if we had started with Rachbuka being our only keeper.

Andy O'Brien and Connolly - Draining more resources if they are never going to play again - Grayson not managing them?

Bromby and Bruce and Parker and Kissa - Not initially Graysons fault but lets start shifting some out.

Mikka - Did we need him when we have Sam and Nunez and now Delph on loan?

Brown - Nearing the end of his career was he a good signing?

Surely we could have saved a bit with the above? Enough to have made just TWO decent signings a defender and defensive midfielder who can progress with the club and enough to have offered Gradel a new contract?

Where would we have been in the league today with Gradel playing a decent CB and a quality midfielder to play alongside Howson, Gradel, Snodgrass and Clayton.

I do feel the main culprit is Bates but I do have massive question marks over Graysons ability
