If some of you have read my previous posts I hav't been the most avid fan of Mignolet.

However over the last few weeks and games he is slowly turning me into a fan.
I know he is still young and will develope, but he has shown brilliant courage to come back with that injury he got.
He seemed to get on with it, and apparently we have won 40% of matches he has played, with 25% win without him.

I just wanted to praise him, and admit maybe I was wrong.

Maybe next season he will get the no1 shirt. If he improves over the summer with a few things (such as disripution and his command of the box) then I would have no problem with him being number 1.

Sell him and bring Siddall back I say, a proper goalie who always had his betting slips with him in the goal.

Deffo improving but still not good enough on crosses.

If the cross is in the 6 yard box it is his. 3-4 times against Everton they had headers they should never have got.

Have to agree with the above - still needs to work on crosses but has improved massively over the last few monthsgames (maybe coinciding with the arrival and coaching techniques of a certain manager!)

The same could be said about a number of players playing for us of course!!

    Migs take on it all.

SIMON Mignolet hopes to earn the plaudits at Wembley, rather than merely ensuring Sunderland remain in the FA Cup.

Belgian stopper Mignolet’s double save to deny John Heitinga and Nikica Jelavic at Goodison Park on Saturday immediately sparked comparisons with Sunderland’s FA Cup hero Jimmy Montgomery.

Club ambassador Montgomery produced the most famous piece of goalkeeping in Sunderland’s history when he denied Peter Lorimer and Trevor Cherry at Wembley on the way to cup glory in 1973.

But Mignolet has rejected the comparison – insisting his razor-sharp reflexes will count for nothing if Sunderland don’t prevail in next week’s quarter-final replay against the Toffees.

Mignolet said: “I see Jim Montgomery quite often at the Stadium of Light and obviously everyone knows about those saves because they were so important. But we are only in the quarter-finals.

“It kept the team in it and they ended up winning the Cup. Everyone will remember him for that.

“Hopefully, I could do it at Wembley as well, but I don’t want to talk about that as we still have a difficult replay.

“The main thing is not about a few saves because they can get forgotten pretty quickly if you don’t get through to the next round.”

The 24-year-old added: “The cross came over and Heitinga’s header was going just inside the post, but luckily I got a hand on it.

“Unfortunately, it dropped for Jelavic as well and all I could think of was getting up as quickly as I could. Luckily for me, he hit it into the side of my body.

    “I was pleased with that.

“All you can do is make yourself as big as possible. But if we don’t get through, no-one will mention it again.”

Mignolet hailed the fighting spirit Sunderland showed after Everton cancelled out Phil Bardsley’s 12th-minute opening goal and piled on the pressure for a winner.

“You can talk about the save, but if Bardo hadn’t scored we wouldn’t still be in it either, so it’s not just about one person,” added the former St Truiden stopper.

“Everyone fought really hard, worked their socks off and getting a draw at Everton is a good result because it’s always such a tough place to go.

“No-one can be disappointed with how we played – we are still in it.

“Everton always fight really hard, but, for the first 20 minutes, we were the better team, until they came back at us.

“The replay won’t be easy either so, because of that, I don’t like to say we will back ourselves

Good honest appraisal he has improved, came back when still injured cos' Flash and Westy not fit. Was good against Stoke, saved the pen at ASDA, double save at Goodison. Room for improvement on crosses and he needs to pass the ball out to the backs instead of kicking it away, MoN and coaches also to note. ATM he will not be dropped cos he has earned the right to be in. IMHO two good keepers also behind him!

    Probably on my own here.
But I agree with Roy Keane, the first save was what any keeper would be expected to save.
It was a glancing header with no pace, if he hadn't saved it I would have been fuming.
The second save was just him getting up and making himself big.

In no way could it be even considered close, to Monty's saves.

Westwood and Gordon still my first two keepers.

<laugh> You are not easily pleased are you mate? Mig is a quality keeper who is underrated in my eyes. Easily the best you have and near enough level with Krul (they have the same weakness.... kicking!)

Just voicing my opinion mate, I just don't see this great keeper others do.
But then I used to defend Gordon when he was taking stick on here, he was being fouled on crosses and some were saying he was weak!
Mingolet has had clear runs at crosses and fluffed them. He just doesn't look that mobile to me.
And his distribution is so woeful every time he clears the ball it comes straight back.

Not having a go, I am just saying you are wrong ;). Nah fair play, we all have our opinions. Gordon would be my first choice but he is injured a lot. Get him fit and you have 2 quality keepers fighting it out. Westwood has done well but I don;t think he is their level yet (isn't he only 24?)
