Two of the bright sparks this season. I see the club want to open talks with Simon about a new contract and its the best news I have heard in a very long time. The lad is 23 and is getting better and better as each game passes and it won't be long before he is at a champions league club. The first time I seen the lad play was his debut against Birmingham at the Stadium of Light a couple of season's back and though he had his little faults and still does you could tell on that day Brucie and Spink (who was the one who really wanted him at the club) had pulled off a masterstroke! The lad seems like a top bloke off the park and on it he has been our best player by a country mile this season, I wouldn't like to think were we would be without him. IMO if we have Mig for the next 4-5 season's he will turn into the best keeper I have seen play for us and since I started going (when the SoL opened) we have had our fair share of canny keepers, Sorenson, Poom, Gordon etc. On to Danny Rose and I have to say after the Liverpool game I wasn't to sure on him, I said afterwards that I thought he looked like a winger helping out the side and playing out of position but since then he has been absolutely fantastic! The lad is not afraid to take an elbow, he works hard defensively, is good on the ball, quick and likes to get forward, IMO he is our best left back since Michael Gray and the club need to get him signed up in January!! I would be disapointed if we never included a fee at the end of the loan or have been in contact with Tottenham already! For all the doom and gloom there has been this season there has also been the odd good thing and these two have certainly been that, I hope they are in our side for a long time to come
LOve the Mig me, think he's the first really quality keeper since my beloved Tommy (Westie is a canny keeper as well), and he will get better for another 5-6 years yet. A 5 year deal with an option for a 6th means if nothing else, when a superclub comes in for him (which they will...) we get top dollar for the lad (hopefully at LEAST 4 years). Rose? Simple. Anywhere to £6million is worth it, do it in Jan no ****ing about.
Don't think we'd get him for less than 8m and i'd pay that for the lad, we've never had anyone of his calibre at LB since MG.
I always came on here with my concerns about the Mig and I even said at one point I didn't think he had what it took to become a top keeper. How wrong I was and I will happily admit it and it feels good On a side note, I still think Westwood is a top, top goalkeeper and I feel for him but Mig deserves his place.
Think 8's a bit rich, but it wouldn't offend me if we paid it, taking into account age & potential. I really do fear someone, even Spurs themselves, may have clocked the rate of his improvement, needs done & dusted.
I hate this season long loan malarky, it's obvious that if they do well prices will be inflated or the club will want to hold on to them. Take the plunge and just try to sign the ****ers, we have been done over to many times through it, Onohua, Welbeck etc. Loans should only be used in January to see you through to the end of the season, young players like Rose who obviously have potential, just sign them up!
Can't think of many LB's who would be an improvement over Rose for that sort of money, like you say, get the deal done before he prices himself out of a move. I fear another Hutton scenario.
We took him on loan from the Spuds, he had a cracking season for us and they demanded something like 7 or 9 million for him, we didn't pay it and he eventually went to Villa for 3m. He's been crap since by the way.
Rose looks an excellent player since you gave him the opportunity to actually play. Very attack minded as a left back which is no surprise having spent his whole early career on the wing. Defensively he seems steady enough. Undoubtedly room from improvement and things to learn but you'd be disappointed if there wasn't at his age. Rather than looking at it negatively I see it as a positive. All that said, talk about becoming a left back at the wrong time! Cole, Baines, Bertrand, Gibbs. Jack Robinson on the way through the Liverpool ranks, there's never been so many options! Mignolet is progressing well. As with most young keepers he is a fair way from the finished article. They all have bits to learn and there is a reason they peak at 30. Decision making based on experience. I'm not convinced by him on free kicks I have to say but he is a top notch shot stopper. I think the two North East PL clubs both have a safe pair of hands they can rely on. Krul needs to work on his kicking though, its fecking awful.
An option if Johnson is out of form. Long term though you want your best players on the pitch as often as possible. Johnson is one of your best players.
