We've signed Nottingham Forest midfielder Simon Gillett on loan until January 28th. Really a odd signing considering a CM really isn't a priority at the moment. Thoughts https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Gillett please log in to view this image
Yeah but he was signed for the future, we will get rid of Casthenria? and he will replace him. This one really is odd. CM is not a problem area and to me this will spell the end for Reid....
SO'D: "Simon can play various positions in midfield." SO'D: "We'd prefer to bring a defender in first and foremost but Simon has become available and wanted to come."
'to me this will spell the end for Reid....' Shiny - Have you seen Gillett play ? If so, what's he like.
Well not to put a downer on him already, He is basically another Johnson/Kilkenny type player but this guy can pick out a pass and will probably influence the game. Still though a weird one from SOD
Just read wiki. Seems Gillett has spent time with SOD before 27 years old and not been able to establish himself anywhere and with Junior's build. Not hopeful and what's worse I think Shiny might be right about taking Reid's place. And where's Wynter FFS.
I cant see any other player having to be dropped, The only other would be Bryan. Pack and Waggy you would think would be nailed on starters. I think I read before that Gillett can play LM, may be mistaken though?
Now THATs a good question. The brief new dawn in the first few games of this season all featured Wynter, and he looked like a real prospect. He also gave more of a solid look to our suspect defence, and it seemed that the loss of Liam Kelly could be compensated for. But then he vanished. Are we that flush with talent that we can shelve one of our bright young things ?
I think the reason Wynter doesn't play is because he is to similar to Pack. You probably cant play both as there wont be much creativity but if you play him with Reid our oldest CM would be 20, we would have a 19 year old left winger and a 23 year old right winger. Reid can play with Pack because of Packs Experience and the amount of games he played, Wynter can play with Gillett now for the same reason. This of course is just my opinion
Quality is quality, and Wynter does seem to have that, probably more so than Pack whose experience has been playing in a lower league of football. I would venture that at this level, ability is more important than lower league experience. The boy needs games Also, the way we concede goals, and with Jet and Bryan in the team, Pack and Wynter together could be an answer. Yes its good to have another playmaker, but when we are already employing Kilkenny to warm the bench what is the point ?
SOD plays reid and pack because they are different players.. if what you are saying is correct about gillet then he is an identical player to winter, so we will be seeing short 2 yard passes in the midfield for the whole game
City secure loan signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder. City have secured the loan signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Simon Gillett. The 27-year-old joins until January 28th, beginning work under Sean O’Driscoll for a third different club. Oxford-born Gillett began his career at Southampton, where he came through their youth setup. Interspersed between 31 appearances for the Saints between 2005 and 2010 were short-term loan spells with Walsall, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Blackpool, Yeovil Town and Doncaster Rovers. It was at Rovers where O’Driscoll and Gillett first crossed paths, an initial loan period being turned permanent via a two-year contract in July 2010. By 2012 O’Driscoll was in charge of Nottingham Forest and recruited Gillett’s services once more to bolster his midfield options. Gillett secured promotion from League One via the play-offs with Blackpol in 2007, beating Yeovil Town 2-0, and lifted the Football League Trophy in his final season with Southampton in 2010.
