Simon Davies has reached 5 years with the club and what a servant he has been. Will never forget his goals in semi final and final of Europa League. Thanks Simon. http://www.fulhamfc.com/Club/News/NewsArticles/2012/January/SimonDaviesPhotoSpecial.aspx
A real pearl of a player, workmanlike ever since he joined and became FFC Player of the Year. Amongst the highlights, the goals against Hamburg and in the final will live in FFC folklore! Looking forward to seeing Digger back playing again soon.
One my favorite players ... I wish there was room for him in the starting 11. He's probably the best crosser of the ball of anyone on the team.
Exactly, Bandit. I like the old-fashioned wingers, but we've been moving toward this "new" offensive scheme for some time, bringing the ball up through the middle with a zillion little passes. I'm not saying the "new" offense is better or worse, but it would be nice if we were proficient with the "old school" offense as well.
Agree all round, no exaggeration to say he's one of my all time favourite fulham players. Scored some vitally important goals, with Hamburg and Athletico being the obvious ones, and in era of football where old fashioned wingers seem be in decline (Gareth Bale aside), he remains a fantastic crosser of the ball. Also think if we can get him back in the team then zamora's performances will improve no end, just like the 09/10 season.
Well if the second half against Newcastle is anything to go by, we could see the 4-4-2 returning sooner than planned
Bandit, allow me to disagree... Think Jol is too stubborn to get back to 4-4-2 but I can see him using it whenever it suits the game and the opponent. I think we will be back to 4-2-3-1 on Friday against Everton.
I think that will fully depend on whether or not Dembele is back for the Everton game, he is integral to the 4-2-3-1 formation, without him it doesn't work, which we saw against Blackburn and in the first half against Newcastle.
And the word is that he will be available for selection for the Everton game. Also, Madness, I don't think it's a case of being stubborn, more that he believes in his system. And, to be fair, we've looked good playing it at times this season. It's a work in progress rather than a failed experiment. It's also encouraging that he was willing to do something different when it wasn't working against Newcastle.
That's were my stubborn comment was aimed at. In other cases we had some problems adjusting to the system, which by way I like more than 4-4-2, and he was not keen adjusting... Not moaning, happy with where we are!!
No problem, Madness. I think my post read a little more critically than it was meant to - sorry! I like the 4-2-3-1 too. I hope we play it against Everton with Bairdinho alongside Murphy. Interestingly, Davies (just to get us all back on the original topic) has been playing centre midfield for the reserves recently. Perhaps Jol sees him as the Murphy stand-in. We shall see.
Being Welsh and a Fulham fan, it's not hard to see why Davies is my favorite Fulham player, although his absence this season and Dempsey's prominence has pushed my loyalty to the limit ha. I would love to see him given a run in the team in place of Ruiz who is still getting used to the league.
Not to worry Captain, I was not clear on my original post. Actually going back to your comment on Davies playing more centre he played in that position when he came back for 1-2 games as a sub. Interesting! Another thing with Davies is that he can defend /tackle well.
I think he could be for us what Steve MacManaman was at Real Madrid (no, really, go with me on this). A player who again and again was written off because of new additions to the squad: 'It's hard to see Davies getting a place in the starting eleven now' (and I've written that myself before now), but who digs in deep and works hard, reinventing himself and finding a new role to play. MacManaman spent a fair chunk of his time at Real doing the Chris Baird midfield role, which no one would have imagined when he was at Liverpool. Like others, I've always liked Davies and I'd like to think that the arrival of Ruiz, Dembele, Kasami and the emergence of Frei won't mean the end of his first team days at Fulham.
Couldn't agree more with all the deserved accolades. Turned in the odd sterling performance at full back as well. Unfortunately he's out of game against Everton.
