I got sick last year of saying that we needed Jay Simpson; to the point this year (on Saturday) when I was shouting "WHERE'S JAY SIMPSON?!" at the top of my voice! So he has two games in the last year Ipswich - Runs on the pitch, gets the ball, runs 40 yards, Passes to Stewart, Stewart scores Brighton - Impact substition, the lad scores. This will be a good season for our Jay; thank you Steve Bruce for giving the lad a chance!
Interesting interview with Simpson on Humberside. Unsurprisingly he was frustrated while Pearson and NP were managers. Said it didn't matter what he did in training he couldn't get into the team. There's only one more year on his contract - makes sense to offer him an extension so at the very least we don't lose him for nowt.
Do you think he'd sign it at the moment? On a free, there'd be plenty of clubs that would snap him up. Unless he thinks he'll get a good run in the team under Bruce, I doubt he'd even consider an extension.
I'm hoping that many posters will admit that they never backed him in the past rather than pretending they never doubted him. As most people know (far too well) on here, I've been banging the Simpson drum for two long years. I've never claimed he was a 30-goal a season striker, I just wanted him to have a good run in the side where he's not partnered by Mark Cullen and awaiting delivery from Kevin Kilbane. Anyway, I don't think I've ever gone so ridiculously mental for a City goal since the Man City game back in the Premier League (Altidore, Boateng) Apologies go out to all who were sat around me. And no, I wasn't drunk.
Thought you would have enjoyed that goal JD! Well done to Jay though for grabbing the winner, given the chance he's worth a proper run in the team.
I think he would take a lot of convincing but I hope Bruce tries. I get the feeling Simpson will score regularly if he finds a manager who gives him a fair go. Hopefully that will be Bruce.
A great run from Dudgeon which he did more than once today,a sublime slide rule pass from Koren my motm then i think Dudge was brought down in the area but Homer was there in the right place and did the business. Great stuff for the goal
I am a fan of Simpson. It's a shame how he got to this. When he started scoring he got dropped and never got a look in since. Hopefully he'll get a fresh chance under Steve Bruce and we'll see him score a few goals
I wouldn't be surprised to see him start against Blackburn. Or at least be first sub on. He seemed more effective than McLean today.
How much of pre-season did you see? I thought he looked just like that in the early pre-season games I saw. I agree with the poster above who said that the goal was a brilliant team move. Really good stuff. Simpson is definitelymy favourite striker at the club, he runs around like McLean and has a bit of quality and positioning too. Should get a run in my opinion.
I have always been a fan of Simpson, never got service when he first came to us, then when he found confidence was dropped for Fryatt. Would like to see him start next week, UnCLean was awful
It could be happening for Homer: http://www.sportinglife.com/football/live/match-reaction/262385/bruce-impressed-by-simpson?
I am glad he got a chance today, it was really strange that he was dropped by Nigel after playing so well but I must admit I was one of those who had the opinion that the Manager's were seeing him in training and just not fancying him for some reason and I trusted their judgement. However now all the players have a clean slate he should make the most of it, I think he has the ability to score more goals then McLean. Not sure if anyone has mentioned Cameron but I thought he looked a bit more involved today and he had one or two great runs, one of them he was on his own going past players but then spoilt it by doing his fancy footwork and had the ball taken off him. Just wanted him to keep powering through and then shoot. It was an odd game for me today because I just felt quite detached from it all to begin with, just could not get the excitement going to begin with but that was possibly cos I missed the buzz of the players first coming on the pitch (stuck in the queue). Thought when Luke came around at half time we gave him a great reception, he seems such a genuinely nice young man. Good of the Brighton lot to show their appreciation as well with some of them coming down to the front of the stand to take a photo. Did anyone else notice that the Reserves/Junior team members had been moved to a different part of West Stand, no longer just behind the dug out. Wonder if they still get their two concessionary tickets for friends and family.
