DANNY SIMPSON could be back in Newcastle United's starting line-up for the trip to Reading on Saturday.

And Tim Krul is making good progress with the elbow injury that has kept him out of the last three games.

Simpson limped out of the game with Aston Villa with a hamstring problem but is close to a comeback.

His manager Alan Pardew told the Chronicle today: “Danny will train Thursday or Friday all being well.

“Tim is looking for the all-clear on Wednesday to start back.”

The pair’s return will almost take United to full strength, with Cheick Tiote and Fabricio Coloccini set to start tomorrow’s League Cup tie with Man United.

However, Krul is expected to be given a fortnight to get back up to speed again if he gets the all clear to train this week.

Rob Elliot is in contention for goalkeeping duties at Old Trafford tomorrow after impressing against Maritimo, while Steve Harper is likely to be between the sticks for the trip to Reading

Looks like we could play a very reasonable squad for the trip to ManU even resting a few 1st team players for Reading at the weekend.

    Man United

    Elliott
    Perch,Willo,Colo,Anita
    Gosling,Tiote,Bigi
    Obertan,Shola,Marveux
Subs Harper,Saylor, Tav, Amalfitano, Jonas, Sammy, Vuckic

    Reading

    Harps
    Simpson,Saylor,Colo,Santon
    Cabaye,Jonas,Anita/Tiote
    HBA,Ba,Cisse
Subs Elliott, Willo, Perch, Anita/Tiote, Gosling, Marveux, Shola

    Great news!

I'd love to see 4-3-3 vs reading with HBA, Ba and Cisse up front and a midfield of Cabaye, Tiote and Anita!

I have a feeling that Cisse may play at Manure to try and give him more pitch time to try to get a goal and to have a look at the Ameobi-Cisse partnership having already seen that the Ba-Ameobi partnership works well.
    I predict Elliot
    Perchinho Willo Collo Anita
    Obertan Tiote Gosling Marveaux
    Shola Cisse

To be honest, I see this as bad news. Ok, maybe he can start for our Europa league matches now.

Be great to have him back. Has had a good start to the season and is great lad to have about. We were never better defensively than when we had him, Colo and Saylor fit last year. With Santon looking top class, its a great back four. His problem may come in dislodging Perch. The saving grace for Simpson being Perch looks best in holding midfield and Cheik can't stay fit.

I'd rather see Sammy than Obertan in the Man Utd game but other than that, i'd be more than happy if we lined up like that
