Norwich's forgotten man recently. I've been meaning to post this for a while now. I just wanted to gauge other people's opinions on him. I actually thought Jackson was playing really well when he was given a run in the team. Of all the forwards we have played up front this calendar year, imo he has provided the best runs working the opposition defense, dragging them into positions centre backs would rather not be, creating space for others to exploit, setting up goals for others and tirelessly harrassing the opposition players on the ball. Plus his pace scares defenders. If you look at his contribution to certain games then he played a big part in the wins over Swansea away, Bolton, Wolves and Wigan at home and obviously hit the winner against West Brom. Then he finds himself on the bench for games in between - a victim of of the system being employed more often than not. I know sometimes he can be anonymous but any striker can be if the service they are feeding on is poor. Perhaps he is just not posing enough of a goal threat so that is the reason for using him so sporadically. What do you all think?
If confidence player was in the dictionary, the meaning would be Simeon Jackson. He hasn't been given a prolonged run in the team, and unfortunately, this is where the problem lies. If he had been given a run, whether forced because of injuries or not, if he got a few goals in a few matches, he has the ability to get into double figures in this league.
Our forwards are a bit of an enigma really. Morison started well and has IMO faded quite badly towards the end. Wilbrahim has done well in small bit parts but is nto really a premiership striker. Holt is Holt and has ticked virtually all the boxes. Vaughan I cannot make my mind up but would hate to have to rely on him and then there is Jackson. I would hate to sll him as he feels he has a lot to contribute but I also question how far he can go and how much we can rely on him. Buying a quality reliable striker is a priority in the close season (which cannot come quick enough!)
I think on his performances this year he deserves another season in the premier league. I don't think he has looked out of his depth and have always thought him and holt play well together. Plus i think he is popular around the camp, seems to be anyway. I would love to see him stay personally.
hie performance against manure showed he can do it at this level, if he had started against Liverpool with either Holt or Morrison the game would have been very different!
Small, agile forwards have a definite place in the PL - look at Aguero, Tevez, Rooney and Suarez as well as Walcott, Defoe and Bellars. I know Simeon isn't in the same class as these guys but we have lacked his pace and movement in many games this year and I think he and Holty play well together. I'm not saying he is the panacea to our goalscoring problems but he is definitely worth a place in the squad and should be given more team time imo - I'd like to see him start against both Arsenal and the Villa but fear that he won't even make the bench.
I thought his movement brought the best out of holt sometimes personally bit surprised he has fallen out of favour!
No real negatives as yet. Surely someone out there thinks he must be poop and agree with the current way of thinking otherwise what is he doing not even making the bench?
Only player in my opinion who works effectively with Holt up front, he absolutely bossed the game against Bolton I don't know why he has been left out it absolute amazes me how Wilbraham and Morison suddenly just jumped in ahead of him. We seem too slow up front I find it frustrating to watch, against neat and tidy cultured defenders sometimes it works using brute force but I always like seeing a bit of pace and guile up there. I would be interested to see what it would be like if Jackson and Vaughan worked together Vaughany seems to put himself about a bit his not exactly 5 foot tall too and last time I saw our Jacko he looked like he'd been on the roids. He deserves another chance.
I wonder if Liverpool was, now we're safe, a little bit of advertising of Morrison, that was his best position/formation. Wouldn't be surprised if he moved to a top championship club next year. I get the impression Lambo is using these last few games to fiddle about with formation and give Vaughan and r Bennett a chance to get used to playing in the prem. The team clearly isn't playing like they can do which I assume is partly due to being safe.
I expect Morison will be here next year, I have been highly critical of him this season. I still don't particularly rate his attitude but you can't argue how valuable his goals have been this season, and because of that I think he should be here next year. He probably will find a bit of form again next year, I just think he is lacking in confidence at the moment and one way he'll get it back is for Norwich fans to SUPPORT him at the game. I agree though, I think Lambert is playing around with things at the moment. I think Jackson will get a start before end of season his performances have been good whenever called upon this season so I think he deserves a chance to fight for a place in the squad next year.
To me he is the only slightly different striker we have. I think the other five are fairly similar in that its probably power that they prefer or have to use. Jackson can definitely give defenders a head start and get by them. He's not going to be demanding the ball be played up to him with his back to goal. If it were up to me, which luckily it isn't, I would keep Holt, Vaughan and Jackson but let the others go. Obviously thats a bit of a daft statement as it isn't easy to move players on. I would love us to have a real poacher type who just delivers the goals instead of making bold runs or acting as a target man. But I guess everyone would. As regards making the bench, I don't understand it either. But there again I didn't understand why Holt didn't start against Liverpool.
Positive from me as well, I'm not sure he's a 20 goal a season forward, but agree with most others on here, he works well with Holt! If confidence player was in the dictionary, the meaning would be Simeon Jackson.[/B] I'm not trying to start a fight here, and sorry to Carra, as I've lifted this from his post, but what does this mean? I see it written about a lot of our players, I hear people talking of it......then I hear the actual players say that it's the team ethic thats holds them all together, and that they are happy to be 'part' of the squad. So in effect they aren't lacking in confidence and are happy with whats going on, and are fit and ready to take their chance when it comes along? Are they all "confidence players"? because I don't believe people like Holty are, with his playing history he could quite easily have packed it in years ago, look at him now! I believe it's just another football "cliche"! ILD OTBC
Now you can add away at Arsenal to that list. Like has already been mentioned on many other threads, I thought Jackson had a superb game against Arsenal. Everything bar a goal - shame that shot he had after creating the chance for himself after a neat chest trap and surging run forwards was just slightly under his feet when he hit it otherwise I would have fancied him to have absolutely buried that chance. Great endeavor and a real menace all afternoon. I imagined Vaughn was brought in at the start of the season as a replacement/improved version of Jacko but after the display on Saturday he is staking a real claim to hold down a starting place long term. You have to applaud how Lambert has juggled them all. In some ways its not rocket science - you play people when they are in form so at varying stages throughout the season they have all had their chance and more often than not they have risen to the challenge and tried to hold onto that opportunity as best as they can.
The boy did well I like him as you need pace in the prem, and he creates space for others with his runs Vaughn will need to prove himself next season
I said on the match thread when he missed his one-on-one chance that if he had a consistent finish, he would be playing for a bigger club than us. He really does have everything - pace, skill, control and a decent touch. Its a shame he needs four chances to score one goal.
ILD - Look at Jackson's run of goals last season. Up until the Scunthorpe game when he scored a hat-trick after coming on as a sub, he was struggling for form. Lambert pulled a master-stroke in bringing him on when the game was won, he scored his three goals and ended up being our hero for the last few games. If Jackson hadn't of got his three goals in that game, we may very well still be in the Championship. But, he got a new-found confidence and looked like he couldn't miss whenever he had a shot.
Thing is confidence affects everyone. I've had first hand experience of this having suffered from depression. When I haven't been depressed I have done well in all areas of life whereas my confidence has really suffered when I have been depressed.
