Sigurdsson scored seven Premier League goals for Swansea after joining on loan from Hoffenheim in January, helping the club to an 11th-place finish in the top flight. He was ready to sign a permanent deal at the end of the campaign but the 23-year-old felt he could not commit his future to the Swans without Rodgers, who he had worked with at Reading earlier in his career. "If Brendan had stayed, I would have stayed at Swansea. It was my number one choice," said Sigurdsson, whose Tottenham side host Swansea on Sunday. "I really enjoyed playing for Swansea, I loved my time there. "But Brendan leaving changed the situation because I really didn't know what was going to happen. "Then Tottenham came in for me and, when a club with a squad and tradition like that came in, it was really difficult to turn down." The failure to land Sigurdsson was a second devastating blow within a matter of weeks for Swansea, who were still reeling from Rodgers's move to Anfield. Sigurdsson was initially eager to stay with the Swans but, having experienced European football for the first time with Tottenham this season, he feels his decision to move to North London has been vindicated. "It was really difficult. When Brendan left I didn't know what was going to happen," added Sigurdsson, who has made 21 appearances so far this term. "Tottenham are such a big club with a great history, and I had to take my time with the decision. "It was a difficult decision to make but I'm at Tottenham now and I'm very happy." Are we as strong or weaker since he signed for a bigger than Liverpool club.?
I wouldn't mind betting that Laudrup was more to do with him not signing for us than he was. That wouldn't have been said at the time because Laudrup would have started off on the back foot if he'd have said that he didn't want a player who was so influential for us last season, but what he knew at the time and we didn't, was that Siggy for 8 million or Michu for 2 million was somewhat a no brainer
At the risk of inviting another 'Pool puddle on forum's floor .... We are a much stronger, more agile and talented squad than we were at the end of last season. Would we have been the same if events hadn't transpired the way they? I don't think so. It's impossible to say for sure, but by observing what has happened elsewhere, the dynamism of the people involved, their best use of resources available, I am confident with my assessment. Siggy was the right person, at the right place, at the right time, and may have flourished under Laudrup, but now we have in his place players like Ki with stronger upside and then of course there is Michu who is a class apart. (On my page I am seeing a little tag that says I disliked this post, but not true, and I don't know how to correct it.)
Seems like he was fairly respectful. A lot of people at the time were giving Rodgers nearly all the credit for Swansea doing so well, you can't really blame him if he was unsure about joining you guys once he'd left, especially when there was the option of joining a more established Premier League side. Anyway since then Laudrop's blown all the "Rodgers is an amazing manager" out of the water, with the help of Rodgers keeping Liverpool in midtable, and you guys can be very pleased with that. Looking forward to our game on Sunday, you guys brought a great atmosphere last season and it was an entertaining game, hopefully we'll have more of the same this time - especially the result
siggs is a liar, He went to whoever he could get the most money off, He even tried it on with us before signing on for spurs and we turned him down.....He did sod all in the last 5 games for us and had built up a false image of how good he actually was by scoring a few goals at the beginning.... He got found out in the end with us and ended up an average player...what is he doing for spurs...nothing..."I would have stayed at swansea if Brendan was there".. What happened with liverpool then.. No he wanted more money and that is fair enough but dont come out with the Bullshit ....we are far stronger and a better team without him....
It is quite strange that he aint mentioned the Liverpool move, after all its not like his favourite manager was going to a lower league club! i was suprised he didnt follow brenden there. Maybe spurs just decided to blow Liverpool out the water with their offer and the pull of London is quite strong to foreign players. I loved Siggy, he did great and i got no problem with him not signing for us once Brenden had left, as mentioned above and i've stated the same in past articles, Laudrup may well have not pushed the boat out too far for siggy anyway, i think ML saw better options for alot less money but lets not kid ourselves, Liverpool and Spurs are too big for most to turn down, throw in a big wage packet then its a no brainer , swans could never compete with them off the field.
siggs was a lucky guy with us and once teams sussed him out he was just another player. not good enough for premiership footballer who will shine and be first on the team sheet. I cant see him playing to many times for spurs and he certainly would not get in laudrups side....
Utter tripe again Dai, completely and totally untrue and incorrect. So what did happen? Rogers contacted Siggy, before he'd been given permission by HJ to talk to Liverpool. He told Siggy to wait on his signature as he would be going to Liverpool and he wanted Siggy to go with him. At that point in time Siggy had all but signed for us, only needing to pass an insurance medical. As far as is known, Rogers didn't contact Siggy again, weeks later, until after his interview with Liverpool. Then he contacted Siggy and told him he was leaving for Liverpool. He revealed this to a player before officially being offered the Liverpool job, and worse, before he'd spoken to HJ and our board. Rogers assumed he could destabilise Siggy and get him to follow him. Siggy's agent though, who Rodgers had not bothered to contact officially or unofficially at all, had other ideas when he was advised of the situation. Instead of drooling at the prospect of following Rodgers, the agent, wanting the best for his client, put him on the market. It was only after this that Spurs came in for him and the rest regarding Siggy is History. Good luck to him, he is a decent guy and I'll always follow his progress. It was partially because of the above that our board realised they couldn't trust Rodgers. The tearful meeting with his friend HJ, Rogers referred to after his announcement he was going, was in fact a verbal and legal brawl culminating in Rodgers signing a 'no return' clause. The clause was also included and built in to the compensation package with Liverpool. Our board, incensed, fought for every single last penny of compensation for Rodgers and the staff who jumped with him. The 'no return' clause eventually revealed Rodger duplicitous nature when Joe's min release transfer fee was leaked. The board though we're more than happy for Joe to go for £15M and made his departure easy. Our board, in my humble opinion, honorably and successfully represented our great club with integrity. The £5m+ compensation package and £15m for Joe is down to their fearless hard work and due diligence. None of this is a slight against the great club and footballing institution which is Liverpool FC. It is unfortunate though that Liverpool will remain average while they are controlled by a manger with delusions of grandeur.
He can say what ge wants now, because he signed for spurs and not one of us know whether he would have come here or not. Neither probably do most of us care now. Just an attempt to deflect any possible abuse on sunday.
For some reason ,i prefer your version .Nothing against the guy & more than happy with his contribution whilst he was here but I believe we dodged a bullet there ,in as much 8 million was better spent .
Stumpy he wanted more than spurs had offered him and we told him no..and ill put a fact to that as i know from one of the coaching staff.....

It is unfortunate though that Liverpool will remain average while they are controlled by a manger with delusions of grandeur. still hold a grudge against Brendan i see. get over it he has gone and move on....He may manage us again one day so you will be able to love him again instead of acting like a little boy holding a grudge ...
Sigurdsson was great for us, good luck to him without his contribution we could well be in the Championship right now. No Laudrup, Pablo Hernandez or Michu ... One of the best players I've seen in a Swans shirt.
Totally agree No 10, did a great job and scored vital goals for us . Very greatfull Swans supporter here!
