QPR's move for Ajax striker in doubt Jul 18, 2014 22:30 By Jacob Murtagh 0 Comments Sigthorsson's switch to Loftus Road stalling over frontman's wage demands Uncertain future: Kolbeinn Sigthorsson's move to QPR has stalled QPR's move for Kolbeinn Sigthorsson is in doubt over the Ajax striker's wage demands. The Hoops have agreed a fee of around £5million for the Iceland international, who has scored 24 goals in 59 league appearances for the Dutch giants. And boss Harry Redknapp has warned the R's will pull the plug on the deal unless the 24-year-old lowers his demands. He said: âWeâve made contact with Ajax but thatâs dragged on a bit. Personal terms have been a problem. "Weâve agreed a fee with the club and itâs just been difficult getting personal terms agreed with the player. "We canât afford to throw crazy money at people."
Not in this place, mate ........................... just another one of those long-winded, blown out affairs of a player either coming in or going out. It just can't be a clean cut affair, it wouldn't be the QPR way.
Here lies the problem. Clubs don't have a problem with accepting a realistic transfer fee, but every agent and player knows the sort of wages some of our players are on and how much we used to offer. Now that we're offering realistic and sensible wages, everyone's baulking and asking for more. Doesn't necessarily mean they don't want to join us, they just think we will eventually buckle and give them what they want. As a club I think we should hold strong, if we survive this season, it will become easier to sign players. But for now it's going to be a frustrating time for all, especially us fans. We just have to remember that it doesn't mean the club are bad at getting deals done, they've just learnt from their mistakes and should be supported in that.
Some excellent input which I agree with for the most part. However, I think we ARE actually poor at getting deals done (and more importantly keeping them under wraps until they are complete and hence encouraging competition). Mr Beard in particular has not exactly covered himself in glory during his tenure. While we clearly now have a more sensible player acquisition policy that doesn't necessarily mean the process itself has improved.
Yeah but the point is we really don't know what goes on behind closed doors. Beard could actually be brilliant? Just because deals aren't coming off doesn't mean Beard isn't doing his job properly and we don't know to what level he can operate on his own and what he's just being told to do. But we've created the problems ourselves, just good to see as a club, everyone seems to be learning from the past mistakes.
Re: "We canât afford to throw crazy money at people." Not another greedy bugger - he must have studied our past reputation!
