Mr Lover Lover is set to retire apparently.
I have som fond memories of a lad who gave his all whilst wearing our shirt.
    Thanks for the memories Peter.

Sky Sports understands former Newcastle, Rangers and Birmingham star Peter Lovenkrands is set to announce his retirement after a glittering 16-year career in football.

Lovenkrands has spent the last two years at Birmingham City before leaving the club this summer.

The 34-year-old, who was linked with several clubs after leaving Birmingham, has decided to hang up his boots and pursue other interests.

Lovenkrands started his career in his homeland with Akademisk Boldklub before making the move to Rangers in 2000.

The versatile forward enjoyed a successful six-year spell at Rangers, helping them win two Scottish Premier League titles and one Scottish Cup in which he scored the two goals in the final, including a last-minute winning goal against Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Lovenkrands also picked up three Scottish League winners medals during his trophy-laden spell in Scotland.

The Dane also enjoyed success on the European front with Rangers scoring four goals in the Champions League in the 2005/06 season, including the crucial goal that helped Rangers reach the last 16 of the competition for the first time.

Lovenkrands was a huge fans' favourite at Ibrox, scoring 54 goals in 182 appearances despite playing the majority of his games as a winger. His performances at Rangers won a move to Schalke in summer 2006.

In his first season for Schalke, Lovenkrands excelled winning the club's player of the season as the club narrowly missed out the Bundesliga title by one point.

After two-and-a-half years in Germany Lovenkrands returned to the UK with Newcastle in 2009.

In his first full season at Newcastle he helped the club win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, netting 16 goals in 32 appearances.

Lovenkrands helped Newcastle establish themselves back in the Premier League during the next two seasons before leaving for Birmingham in the summer of 2012.

Lovenkrands helped Birmingham survive relegation from the Championship in his final season at St Andrews before leaving at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.

In his international career Lovenkrands won 22 caps for Denmark, representing his country at the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004.

Lovenkrands is now planning to pursue a career in the media in the UK and in Denmark, having already worked with the media in his homeland.

that game he played for us and the goal he scored, soon after his father had died was particularly poignant

Remember it well. He looked up to the heavens and pointed.... with a tear in his eye.

He was a good signing for us. Gave it everything. I think we got the last of his abilities. Ideal in the championship, him and Carroll helped ensure we cruised it.

Didn't expect much when we signed him but he turned out to be decent, bit like Sibierski was

Indeed Antoine was another who came and looked like we just signed a cheapo dud but rocked up. Thing I liked about Sibierski is he got stuck in. I had this impression of him being a bit of a fairy, but he was a sizeable lad and put himself about. This interview was a cracker with him:

    http://www.theguardian.com/football/2008/jan/26/wiganathletic.premierleague

Basically says Shepherd ****ed him over but is still a Newcastle fan. Wonder where he is now.

That game is always the first thing I think about whenever Loverman's name is mentioned. I'd not long lost my own dad at the time and remember getting really choked when he scored. Like others have said he always gave his all and is someone who can be proud of his time in black and white. I am sure he will always receive a warm welcome anytime he shows his face at St James.

Must admit, I had genuine doubts when we signed him. But very pleased to admit he proved me wrong and was exactly what we needed at the time - especially in the Championship season. He had a better goal return than I expected and seemed to be a good influence around the squad.

I think that game just after his father died really won a lot of fans over - myself included.

I truly wish the Loverman well for the future. <ok>

By the way, while you were busy compiling that for us, we played 3 of JPF's 'KGB games'! <ok> You lost in all of them. :(

I can't take any credit for compiling it - only finding it.

No time for silly KGB games - too busy working on some new fancy League Of Doom league tables to make my life easier!

Some quality goals in that lot mind. He could certainly finish when he wanted to.

And there were more assists from a rather sprightly looking Jonas than I seem to recall from the time.

We should have had a Bony situ going on when he was at Vitesse. Everytime he scored they played Boney M. One of these two should have been cranked up everytime he scored. I would like to see more of this in football. So much of the **** that is introduced is cheap advertising or money orientated. Songs for goals actually engage the fans and create an atmosphere which is being lost across the country.

I feel a thread coming on...

It's a shame we couldn't have signed him when he was bit younger.
A good player nonetheless when we needed players to stand up and be counted.
    Good luck to him.
