This is encouraging - on another thread I expressed doubts about him wanting to stay, given the absence of any hints of him wanting to stay, so this maybe opens the door of opportunity just a crack.

I think there's no doubt that he desperately wants to play Premiership football, so if any side in the top flight shows an interest then I still think we're dead in the water. LJ's been talking him up pretty much every week, so there's no doubt in my mind that we'll do what we can to sign him.

No doubt, if he does get back in good with Bournemouth or moves to someone like Middlesbrough (assuming they're promoted), there'll be plenty of fans moaning about our 'lack of ambition', but realistically there won't be much we could have done differently. Of course, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed, I'm just saying, let's not crucify SL/LJ/whoever if it doesn't come off.

If the prem comes in for him, we have no chance, and to be frank we should send him on his way with a big thank you.

    A fantastic player to watch.

Hope SL can pull of a deal for him :emoticon-0148-yes:

I wouldn't be surprised if we are used by his agent/ Bournemouth to secure a move to a bigger club elsewhere. Would love to have him next year though

The 3 promoted clubs wont have him ...? they will be on budgets to sign proven players but will have to sell a couple of this seasons servants!
3 coming down will need to off load a player or 2 to reduce wage bill? and maybe buy replacements proven in this division on lower wages .... isn't fair play this season coming no more than a £2m loss

Evenings post has lost most credibility, today's paper had its head story of a load of racists complaining about cheap housing in their area

Depends on his wages. Can't break the wage structure.

WE NEED TO restructure our wage plan ... we need a core of 6 or more on good wages . do you think any of the top teams have a wage structure that says so don't want you, you are £50k a year more than our structure allows

the "increased gates that is being bandied about" should allow us to add another £20k a week to the wage bill! lge gate money should be over £12m ?

Difficult to comment without knowing exactly what the wage bill is. It's very easy to say we need to spend more, but we did that before when we were last in the Championship and it didn't exactly help us - not exactly helping Bolton out now either.

The high money pursuits of Gray and Gayle tells me that the club is willing to splash the cash if they think the situation calls for it, and I think Tomlin's performances would have persuaded people that he would be worth a pretty penny if possible, but there are limits. If he asks for £20k a week, whereas the average is (finger in the air) £8k for a first-teamer, then that's a risky decision to take if other players or potential signings request parity...

It all seems so simple...pay the dude a wad of cash and everything will be grand. Problem is, we are a team and team chemistry should never be underestimated. Having a couple of high flyers in the squad can cause resentment and unbalance the teamwork ethos. We don't have an unlimited budget.

Of course if we don't splash the cash, then the fans will be ticked off and maybe we endure another crappy season.

So, it's a tough choice. But quality usually brings results over the long term. So so whatever is necessary without being financially reckless to get this man on the books.

He's not worth paying over the odds for but if he comes for a reasonable price then it'll be a good signing.
