Do you think the recent events surrounding Luis Suarez and the siege mentality that has since taken to the team and fans is a good thing? I don't think Iâve ever witnessed a mentality like it as a Liverpool fan! Even under Benitez and the whole "Rafa's Rant" or the ousting of the American owners, I've never seen Liverpool fans as vocal as they are now about something they do no believe in. The thing is, is it's not even just one institution. We have seen both The FA AND Sky try to harshly treat Liverpool FC and its fans just recently. Do you think Liverpool fans will commit some sort of act of defiance for the clubs honour while we're currently of this siege mentality? Will the mentality escalate? Or will it pass by like previous times where we have been victimised by the FA or the Media?
I wrote an article about this the other night, I just think Kenny has gone too far with the siege mentality thing. The tee shirt's were a bad idea IMO, Suarez was found gulity and that should have been the end of it. The f.a and the ref's are all against us now and it's getting to the stage where we are being punished for thing's that other player's are getting away with like that gesture that Suarez made. Imo somebody at the club need's to have a word with Suarez and tell him to stop reacting to opposition player's and fan's and also tell him to stop diving. That 8 match ban could well cost us a champ's league spot and all he had to do was ignore Evra in the first place.
I do agree with you to a certain extent especially about Suarez learning to keep his head down and just get on with his job...however I did say at the start of the season that we absolutely had to be a bit more nasty and that Kenny would find a way to engineer a bit more seige mentality at the club...I'm sure he didn't quite envisage it happening this way however (and neither did I) and let's be honest it has been a PR disaster for all concerned so far (not that I give too much of a **** about that but unfortunately the team hasn't responded in the necessary way to piss on the media fire at all). It will wash over within a few months and we as a club may well be better off for it in the long run...but only if the results on the pitch reflect the seige mentality off it. Siege mentalities are only ever any use if your fighting where we want to be fighting...and that is for top spot.
Our timeline: Benitez refused to bow to Fergie and actually brought us some success and was foreign= club and fans hugely unpopular We finally got rid of that idiot Hodgson= more unpopular Kenny's style of play and performances start to remove the criticism we get and then one event after another lately= all time levels of unpopularity What is the realistic impact on us? The media and forums are filled with anti-Liverpool drivel that opposition fans break down into chunks of idiotic nonsense and we get bombarded from all sides. All of this will go away if we actually play well whilst Suarez is banned, and will be practically forgotten if we can make top 4, but it's still a ball-ache in the meantime.
Sorry to jump in guys, but there are a few pricks on chat talking about Hillsborough again. Would appreciate your support. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/111475-First-Crush
I agree with some of your comments, but sometimes saying thank you sir for kicking me in the boll*cks, please feel free to do it again just doesnt wash.It has never seemed to do Old bacon Face any harm. The inconsistancies of the Fergie Allies must be challenged. Now run along now and be a good boy......MY ARSE
Nothing wrong with a little siege mentality - proved that the energy it creates is used creatively. The more the FA appear to keep on our backs and dig bigger and bigger holes for themselves the better. There comes a point where even the most anti-Liverpool club and supporters just cannot accept the mess that the FA are creating. So, the ban Suarez for 1 match. He was always going to miss some matches during the season. We are SUPPOSED to be developing a true squad system so that we can cope with these situations. NOW is the time to see that policy in action. As for the 8 match ban. That is truly a sick joke. Politically motivated and lacking the basis of common justice it has to be resisted by both the club and Suarez. Sorry Rubadub but the "8 match ban could well cost us a champ's league spot and all he had to do was ignore Evra in the first place." is just so selfish! Suarez has consistently said that he did not racially abuse Evra. No evidence has yet been presented to prove that Suarez did intend to abuse Evra - yet YOU say that he just shut up and accept it. Well that's not the culture of the club that I support and have done for over 60 years!!
Foredeckdave... Totally agree with the 8 match ban for Suarez, its been purely sanctioned as a politicial stunt. Lets show UEFA and FIFA how brilliant we are at dealing with racists..All they've done is shown themselves to be exnophobic, by not understanding cultural differences across countries. Plus if the case was nailed on, why hasn't the report associated with it been released for public veiwing? Why hasn't Evra been charged for his comments to the ref, whilst being booked? For years the press have being trying to put Liverpool down at every opportunity, alot of it driven from down the east lancs road i bet.
