With the -10 points set to be enforced by the Football League; the forced sale of the entire first team from last season, the inability to sign new players, the ongoing saga of who is going to buy the club etc etc, things aren't looking particularly rosy on board the good ship Pompey. The Apple is inevitably going to have to send out a rag-tag mixture of kids on to the pitch, so he has to drill into them a siege mentality so they can show the mettle it's they're to need for the club to survive in League One. Equally, those of you who attend Fratton Park on match days have an enormous part to play. The Fratton Faithful must remain exactly that - FAITHFUL. If a bunch of kids in Pompey shirts are 0-2 down to Carlisle after 20 minutes it's going to do no good getting on their backs. The youngsters will thrive on enthusiasm and encouragement, but their heads are likely to drop if the frustration of the crowd reaches the pitch. If their heads drop they'll take a thrashing that will crush their self esteem and confidence going into the following game. The Pompey crowd needs to be more vocal than it's ever been. Let the cries of Blue Army, Appleton's Blue and White Army and the Pompey Chimes ring round Fratton Park for 90 minutes every home game. The Park must be made as intimidating to visiting teams as humanly possible. As things stand at the moment, League Two could, I fear, be staring us in the face, come May, unless every one connected with the club puts their heart and soul into it and gives it 100% effort. We can ask no more than that. POMPEY EXPECTS THAT EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY!
If your management need someone to put on a Pompey shirt, and play for nothing, i'll be more than willing to help you guys out. I did have a trial with the mighty Winmbledon once, back in 1988 as a 16 year old, so i do have some old first division experience. I wish your "boys" good luck for the season ahead. It will be tough for them, but have faith and i'm sure you guys will bounce back.
Very well said, Devo I have already renewed my Season Ticket, regardless of what the first team will look like player wise ! As you say, KEEP THE FAITH !! PUP PPU
When we were struggling financially we played all our kids and they used to come onto the pitch to "Teenage Kicks" being played over the tannoy.
I always found it ironic that at Fratton during half time, "its not about the money" was always played. Quietly albiet.
http://pompeypages.com/2012/07/16/the-full-low-down-on-pompeys-trialists/ We have some fantastic trialists at the club atm, I would be ecstatic if we could sign them all + make up the rest of the squad with accademy players. McLeod (22 league goals last year) and Luke Rodgers (100+ goals in 300 fl appearences) upfront, Gillet and Lloyd Sam on the wings, Brian Howard and Ashley Harris in CM, Harley at left back, Magri and Webster at CB, and Dumbuya at right fall back/right wing back... MINUS 10, WHO GIVES A ****, WE'RE SUPER POMPEY, AND WE'RE GOING UP! It may not even be -10 (see here for more details: http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/politics/letter-aims-to-restore-pompey-s-lost-points-1-4062473), but both Scum and Leeds have proved that it's possible to up near the top after a deduction. This is the team I would LOVE to see start against Bournemouth on August 18th: ---------------Eastwood--------------- Harley-----Webster---Magri--Dumbuya Gillet--------Harris---Howard-----Sam -------------McLeod--Rodgers
You'll probably get Gillet, after massively outbidding Donny: http://www.southyorkshiretimes.co.u...t-back-to-doncaster-rovers-are-over-1-4735038 Business as usual at Fratton Park, it seems.
I'd take that with a pinch of salt - we have no idea how much/little was being offered by Donny - nor could I imagine for a single minute that Trevor Birch will be prepared to break the bank, especially as he is determined to get the wage bill down to minute proportions.
All supposition, to my mind. No doubt after enjoying his free "holiday" in Spain, he will return to the U.K. and sign for another club.
