    Are you serious <doh>

He may have had a bad game today. He has been the main midfield man for many matches now. Get rid of him after one bad game? We'll run out of players if we did that , especially our GKs and defenders..

Respect this is your opinion. But I think you are in a (very small) minority of United fans. <ok>

Eh? Apart from the odd pass, Carrick had a good game for you guys. As soon as Cleverley came on he got even better. Why did you not start Cleverley to begin with? He is a fine player.

Can only imagine the boss man is trying to keep people rested for the upcoming games.

not really .. he was doing well .. but NU was closing us down and scholes and giggs were slow to attack
but he had more space to pass by 2nd half as NU get tired and UTD moved up more

I think Carrick deserves his place. We could do with a tough high energy player playing alongside him.

Carrick doesn't need to go, Scholes does. Whenever one of the old guys play alongside Carrick he looks like he has to do all of the closing down in midfield on his own, when he plays with Cleverley or even Anderson he can play intelligently sitting in dangerous areas cutting out passes and starting counterattacks, which is exactly what he does best.

Has it occurred to you that he was stretched by his mid field team mates?

You should. It's not Carrick that shouldn't be in the side, it's Paul ****ing Scholes.

This. Scholes and Carrick has been a liability combination since the 2010/11 season. Scholes gave Carrick a hospital pass for the City goal in the FA Cup semi that season, but since it was Scholes all the media creamed themselves and blamed Carrick. Scholesy's doing well for an asthmatic 38 year old, but that doesn't change the fact he is an asthmatic 38 year old who should not be playing for a side challenging for the PL title other than as a sparingly used emergency sub.

Never been Carrick's No.1 fan and have often been critical of him but he put some great passes through today, including the one to "little Pea " for the winning goal. As I approached Old Trafford today and heard the team news, I was really concerned when I heard both Giggs and Scholes were starting the game ! Add them to Carrick and that is just about our weakest midfield combination. Fergie must have thought Newcastle would have been a push-over, due to their recent form but we actually made them look good. Thought our" Mexican Gem" played his heart out today and with a bit of luck could have had a hatrick, defo my man of the match.

I still think Scholes is a useful player to have on the bench. I don't think he should start because he doesn't have the energy levels for that anymore, but in the last half hour when teams are tiring Scholes can cause them problems.

As he can change the tempo of a game, and he gets other players playing around him. His passing and creativity is still first class.

I don't understand why there is so much negativity for Scholes around here, he seems to be being made a scapegoat for when we have a bad game, just because of he is 38.

Couldn't agree with that more. Scholes is still a great player, if used properly and that means not starting a game with Giggs in the same team. Both those players could be used as impact subs and their presence in the squad must be beneficial to the younger players. Tom Cleverley made a great difference when he came on today, just a pity Anderson gets injured again after impressing recently and Fletcher doesn't seem to be starting many games.
