With Woodgate signing on a pay as you play deal at Stoke and Dyer on the verge of signing for QPR on PayP deal, can you we name a team if sicknotes, so far I have CB's - Woodgate and King CM's - Dyer and Hargreaves ST - Owen surprisingly all (former) England internationals! Fill in the gaps!
Can you imagine how much better England would have been if they'd managed to keep those 5 fit. Crazy thing is folk just love keep giving them contracts. Even now on these boards you see comments like "let's give Hargreaves a go on pay as you play terms, it's risk free" Er no it isn't and it's a complete waste of time. Pulis needs his nappa checked out after signing Woodgate. He is fooked for life. Hargreaves too. Owen not so but can only manage cameos. King, they seem to have accepted he's fecked but in a Paul McGrath type way, is good enough to play without training! Dyer - Honestly couldn't say but I reckon he's finished too.
There is too much risk on all of those players and they are past it and have been getting paid top dollar for been injured
GK Richard Wright - Always fecked (Mart Poom was also considered but that was mainly because he missed a full pre season when at Derby when he hurt his genitals in a friendly against an Iron Maiden XI - I have not made this up, I read it somewhere) RB Gary Neville LB Fabio Aurelio (although Kieran Gibbs might give him a run for his money if he keeps up his ability to injure himself) CB Woodgate CB King RM Dyer (I've put right midfield only because he hated it! haha) CM Hargreaves CM Steven Reid (Essien, Gerrard, J Cole, Gosling, Anderton, B Robson and a variety of others were considered) LM Overmars (Class but he pulled his hamstring every 5 mins) CF Cort CF Owen or Bellamy
Who can forget the glorious Ignacio Gonzalez?! Since leaving Uruguay in 2008 he's gone on to make a grand total of 23 club appearances including two memorable performances in black and white on loan before going on to make a staggering 0 appearances for parent club Valencia. He managed to play 13 times for Levadiakos, helping them to win relegation to the Greek second division and then went on to play 3 games on loan for Levante before injuring himself again. He's somehow managed to be capped 18 times for his country.
Duff played 598 games over 15 seasons, averaging just under 40 a season, I don't think he should qualify.
I guess not he must have stayed fit for blackburn/chelsea but it seems he's alwys injured lately for ROI and Fulham.Good stats all the same I never realised his record was that good and it just shows how long he has been on the go.
It's easy to forget just how young he was when he hit the big time, he was a regular first teamer back when he was 18, it's only natural that it's caught up to him. He's made 130 appearances (club and country) over the last 3 seasons so that's still not too bad! I think a real sicknote is someone who struggles to average 20 appearances a season during their prime despite having the ability to start. eg. Michael Owen (striker) at Newcastle - 78 appearances over 4 seasons (aged 25-29) technically best striker at the club Kieron Dyer (midfielder) at West Ham - 34 appearances over 4 seasons (aged 28-32) technically best midfielder at club Jonathan Woodgate (defender) at Tottenham - 65 appearances over 4 seasons (aged 27-31) technically best defender at the club
Duff unfortunately got crocked at Chelsea in a variety of ways and never recovered (shoulder being a main one). He picked up further injuries when with us (who doesn't!), and has basically been a perma crock ever since. Just thought of another obvious one - Jamie Redknapp
