We are a club who have seemed to have spent/wasted a lot of money and with MON in charge this looks set to continue. I also find it worrying how people on here talk about "the need to spend big", why?.... Why aren't people talking about the "the need to find the right player"? Look at our neighbours compared to us, Sissoko 1.7m - N'Diaye 3.8m. Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Debuchey, Haidara, Anita. None of which were really expensive signings. Michu signed for Swansea, 2m. The players are out there but with a manager who seems to get lost looking at talent if he looks outside the UK, it looks set to continue that we will miss out on these and continue with the overrated and overpriced British players. Looking at the list of players whos contracts are expiring this summer, there's some real talent that we could pick up for free: K Toure C Brunt ---------------------------- Hangeland ------------------------- Arshavin Figueroa ---------------------------- Lampard R Ferdinand Di Santo Petric ------------------------------- Benayoun Dunne Baird ------------------------------- Diarra ------------------------------ Malouda Owen Hitzlsperger Gallas P Neville. Obviously theres some in the list that wouldn't even give us a glance and there's some there who I wouldn't look twice at. The ones with lines next to them are the players that could come in and do a job in the team or add to our squad depth at worst. All of this is obviously irrelvant if as I suspect, we get relegated.
My sensible head on here , right I think the difference with mon signings is he has tried to bring in a type of player to really improve us but apart from fletcher it hasn't worked , under Bruce he did bring in some good players but he also brought some ****e, and before that keane just wasted money . I just wonder sometimes if the problem is Sunderland can we attract big names is it a place were big names want to play there footie?and as a result we end up with players who are past there sell by date could be way off the mark here but just what I think.your right thou safc83 look at the players the toon brought in I would have them all in our squad and they got them fairly cheap,as you said we pay to much for British players this is why I think oneil is old skool and we could benifit from a young foreign manager
