Rodgers gives us great official press conferences doesn't he? he does tell us a lot but i do think he's now a hostage to fortune as his message keeps changing. Further i think if he fails to get in his loans or permanent buys for whatever reason then i think he'll be under pressure from the off as he keeps saying he needs to improve... I hope the message doesn't morph into an excuse as time goes on.

The highlights of this interview are what seem on the face of it (but if you've been listening all along they are not) to be total turn arounds form what he's said about agger and carroll. The press and outsiders seem to have a field day with what he says and take only the stuff they can use to make juicy stories.

He's now reiterated Ageer is vital to him and a key player yet the press just yesterday had rodgers saying everyone had their price and it looked like he wanted to sell him... surely only LFC fans that pay attention will have heard that he didn't want to sell agger in that first interview at it being said again today. It just looks like damage control at a glance.

Even more than that the carroll saga rumbles on with what looks like a total about face now that he can't find a buyer for carroll. If fact rodgers has said nothing he's not said before on andy but I just can see it being taken again as he's flip flopping on the player.

If aug 31 comes and passes and both men are at the club will the press print that we failed to sell them or did well to keep them or what?

I think he is doing not to bad a job with the press. He's seeming like he wants to engage them and bring them on board but telling them nothing at all. I am hoping there will come a time soon where they don't lead with Liverpool stories quite so often just because they then may look daft. I've no idea on his real feelings for carroll or agger as don't a lot of Liverpool followers, but do know if I was a hack would stop leading with rumours that often don't pan out. Maybe he has his own way of bringing back the "keep it in the club, behind closed doors policy" and is insidiously shaping the press.

Rodger's first conference said he'd love to keep Agger but if someone were to offer money for him they'd have to look at it as everyone has their price.

It doesn't mean if City offer us £20mil we'll accept, but if they offer us £50mil then we'd sell for example.

Don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Don't like this for a quote though:

@thisisanfield: Gerrard on Agger: "It might be one of them situations where it's not in Daniels hands. It's up to the owners at the end of the day."

If we are to believe both BR & DA that they both want him to stay. Other than 44 million etc what possible reason could the owners have to sell him against that position. Surely that undermines the manager.

This mixed message thing is starting to piss me off. By all means do the "say nothing" approach but don't play games & send some one out to say something different every time.

BR super positive in interview before game, plays Agger, all looks well then this from Stevie.

I'm just going to stick my fingers in my ears & sing "he's staying"

The press will print what they think people will pay to hear, the facts don't come into it really as they know they aren't credible and readers aren't expecting them to be.

As for how Rodgers handles the press, only time will tell really. So far I've not been convinced by him, he's made it easy for the press to interpret his words into potentially damaging stories but i think it was just a steep learning curve in the first couple of weeks that anything he says (or omits to deny) will be used as a weapon against him. He seems to like to give himself wiggle room so that he doesn't look like a fool if things pan out whatever way. The "every player has his price" is simply true (look at Ronaldo at Man Utd) but the bigger the club, the less the fans want to hear it so he has to be wary - you're not in Swansea anymore Mr. Rodgers.
