Well done on the Norwich win. Looking forward to this one. Will be keeping an eye on your form for the next few weeks. Have to say this competition comes in for a lot of stick but personally i love it. Have had some great days out (alcohol and football related) with it ! Looking forward to a bit of banter here for a few weeks.
hi naas blue, not unknown for a little banter myself. please do not judge us by our form as the last few weeks could have been better. having disposed of Blackpool, Leicester away and Norwich at home, it may take a few Chelsea reserves to perhaps give us a game. I have tweeted all the gems, such as Shrewsbury Biscuits V Chelsea Buns, English Bridge V Stamford Bridge and Shrewsbury Flower Show v Chelsea Flower show. funny enough all 3 fixtures finished with a score of 3-0 to town MMM Mickey Melon's Marvels will be quietly training today with their Subuteo sets prior to the after Lord Mayor's Show visit to Southend on sea. followed by another seaside visit to Plymouth. do hope you get a seat for our game, enjoy our pubs and medieval town, but do not be surprised with the result, your young Drogba can drive your 1971 plaxton super glide coach. he knows the way as he played our meadow in a pre season friendly last summer for Galatassary? . oh yes we have had some really great teams up here, man utd, crewe, telford and now the pensioners. good luck Chelsea and do read Blackpool, Leicester And Norwich recriminations of underestimating Shrewsbury Town after their games, it may make your ultimate disappointment easier to swallow. Floreat Salopia!
Still have good memories of the game in '03 where you beat us at our old stadium. Yeah, Drogba has played hear a couple of seasons ago so he should know which way the coach should turn! (Up the M6 and turn left after Brum) Hopefully will be a good game and Moanio will field a bunch of youngsters, or will it be a mixed squad with first teamers worth more than all of the houses in a five mile radius? Either way they'll have to deal with Wesoloski in DM, big G at the back and Collins who scored against Arsenal at the front.
As mentioned elsewhere, the sides of the current stands would block the view of the pitch so they'd have to be a small set of seats and sat quite far forward. Some fans on B&A are a bit obsessed with filling in the corners, it would build atmosphere but would be huge investment only to be done when we are regularly filling the stadium to capacity. Who wnts to sit in the corner anyway? the block 12 that I sit is is not anywhere near full and neither is block 13 in the West block.
Hi Atcham Jack and Matster. Yeah i see Murdoch's lot have us on the box...was inevitable. They will be rolling out all the usual platitudes when they have a game like this (Costa earns more in a week blah blah). The way i see it is if the 11 we put out take your lot lightly or don't win their individual battles then any result is possible. On the plus side for us the squad is very strong and no matter who we put out they will all be internationals (senior or underage). Another thing as well is, we take this cup more serious than most. Mourinho's first major trophy in England was this one plus he never takes less than 100% effort from any player he selects. P.S. Were you both there when we played you at your old home....our legend Zola got a couple that night.
do hope cup winners are in Europe next season, I need a passport. Our chairman is bound to make your club's owner and directors welcome. he has on order a dozen crates of Omsk and Tomsk Shiraz, to make them feel at home. I suspect Jose will not underestimate Town, and the greatest compliment he can pay us is to field a strong team. we rise to any occasion.
I was there back in 2003 for the last game. A lot of our more boisterous fans are harping on about all of the games that Shrewsbury beat Chelsea back in 81-83 era when in the same league, long memories! Hopefully a good game and with you having Arsenal the sunday before and this being a Tuesday game we might see a slightly younger squad walk on to the pitch oh and directions? please log in to view this image
just 2 days before mourino's wrecks play town they have a sunday game at Old Trafford. several stars may be knackered so Drogba stands a good chance of playing with Chelsea youth, groundsman and Chaplain. I go 3-2 on penalties aet to town, and AJ has not been up the legion yet, but hopes to be in the Railway Inn Yorton a week on Thursday night the 9th.
Hopefully meet you at the railway if I can aj. Anyone else about that eve? More than welcome to say hello. Where's TinnedHats, he's Myddle way.
yes look forward to meeting as many of you as possible, should be there at opening time for a couple of hours or so. staying in London rd salop Thursday, Ludlow on Friday and Saturday.
travelling up 6am on 9/10. hope to be in 3 fishes lunch time. just been given a 1977 then and now (1977) the changing face of Shrewsbury. including a photo of Merivale 1601 which avoncroft museum turned down. it stood in front of Wakeman school and was sadly demolished. booklet published by scc library and shrewsbury chronicle. cost 65p new in 1977.
Hi A.J. and Matster. 3 weeks to go. I see you have had 2 (1-0) defeats since. At least you're not shipping many goals. Heard Mickey Mellon on a 5 live interview talking about our match. He comes across as a thinker of the game and has a good sense of humour. How do the Shrews fans in general view him and can he get you up this season. I know it's very early yet but the half-empty fans will probably be saying you're 6 points from the trapdoor and the half-full fans that you're only 3 points from the play-offs. I tend to be a half-full man myself. Good luck with your next few games. Onwards and upwards. P.S. Never knew that one of the most famous people in the history of the world was born in Shrewsbury... Charles Darwin.
You're welcome Naas Blue..... Lord Hill, Admiral Benbow, Clive of India there's a whole host more including T'Pau's Carol Decker!!! Salop's a lovely place....stop over for a while! My gran lived near Darwin's house, I think the old Post Office used it when they had something to do with phones (?)
Ta Meta. Like the Avatar. Looks like something Darwin would have found in some far flung place ! Would have an avatar myself but haven't a clue how to do it ! Probably would be a picture of a pint of Guinness !!!
I suspect you may need something stronger than Guinness at 21.35 on 28/10/14, my recommendation is a large hip flask of brandy to deaden the pangs of disappointment. seriously let it be a good game. Shrewsbury is also well known to royalty, in order to avoid the summer stench of London, many medieval kings held their court in the town. in 1539 king Henry V111 gave town a charter making it a City and creating a Bishoprick. the town kept their bishop but preferred to remain the Premier of Boroughs, I am looking forward to travelling up to God's own county town tomorrow in preparation for the Chel, as you were Cheltenham game on Saturday. after watching that game I may be able to provide Chelsea with the task they have in hand. do tell your coach driver drogba to avoid rush hour road works on the A5. just hope his tom tom sat nav is switched on in your 1971 luxi powerglide ford coach. he will not need sat nav in the evening, as we have lowered the cross bar. Floreat Salopia! Breath on 'em Town!
Hi A.J. Good luck on saturday. Will be looking out for the result. As regards the 1971 luxi..... it's off the road this season. Jose has the 2 kind of players that were missing last year. Clinical striker and conducter of the orchestra... Costa and Fabregas. If your lot start getting cocky they will be set on you !!! P.S. I see Joe Hart is a shrew as well. Has he no loyalty at all....picking Man City over his home town club. Darwin must be turning in his grave !
