millers visit the greenhous meadow in the cup on saturday having beaten barrow away 2-1 to earn their second round tie. league form may not count for much in the cup but it is worth a display the first thing to say is the millers score a lot, particularly away, but concede many goals. results. L h crawley 1-2, w a bantams 3-2,w h shots 2-0, d a morecambe 3-3, d h shrews 1-1. the significant result here is the draw at morecambe. league. p19 w7 d6 L6 f34 a33 gd1 p27 p19 w11 d4 L4 f32 a19 gd13 p37 if shrews can dispose of the millers they can hopefully get amongst the big boys and start causing upsets as in the carling cup. if shrews win i would liken them to a sheepdog worrying and harrying the big boys, but town have to win. given the millers propensity to score away and the shrews 6 game winning run i predict town to win 4-3, morgan, wroe, wright gornell. att 5677. floreat salopia, breath on 'em shrews
I would like GT to use this game to give a start to players who have not had much game time recently, like Collins, Taylor and Ainsworth. I also hope we get to see Wallace for 90 minutes as GT clearly rates him. I know the Cup is important but the League is our over-riding priority. I doubt if this will weaken the side much as these players are arguably as good as any in the team in their positions and we desperately need a fully match fit and fired-up squad so that players can come off the bench in the league games and make a difference if we are struggling in a game.
is bradshaw injured, i notice he has not been on the bench for some time. i would like us to have another cup run after the blyth spartans etc setbacks. just glad we are not playing at totton
SMITH same back 4 Ainsworth McAllister Wallace Taylor Collins Bradshaw Subs: Neal Goldson Wroe Wright Morgan I'd go for something along those lines, that 11 is extremely strong and it would give some of the first team guys a rest whilst keeping a certain level of quality in the side.
i do not think the fa cup is the time to play 4th choice strikers etc. i want to see town win on saturday and make progress amongst the big boys and earn some dosh for rowland to splash out in league 1 and upwards. surely the time to play reserves is in the johnson and shropshire cups, or when places become available. we appear to have a penalty taker in wroe, he allegedly was mom last saturday, why is he not in the team. what have gornell and morgan done wrong. as fror wright being on the bench i must repeat what maggi thatcher once said==no,no,no! so vanner i agree with your selection of the same back 4 but not a lot else, but what do i know!
I actually agree with Vanner, I'd rather we won promotion than reached the third round of the cup, so resting large parts of the squad becomes imperative at such a busy stage in the season. That team is still good enough to win, and we need to be giving our fringe players some game time, otherwise they will lose form and we won't be able to depend on them as backup when they're most needed.
we have already won 85500 in tv rights, i just thought rounds 3, 4 and 5 could be a good way of the club earning dosh. but if the cup is of little importance then let us concentrate on the league and change a 6 match winning team, never mind the morale and confidence that has built up. please put me down as an fa cup supporter and town are go for promo.
I agree it is a nice way of earning money and a third round draw with a big club would be good, but surely Vanner's team is good enough to win this? Ainsworth, Collins and McAllister have all been excellent this season and won't be happy being dumped on the bench, and an opportunity against a decent, but not brilliant team will be a good chance for them to go out there and show why they deserve to start as well as the youngsters Taylor and Bradshaw - the latter particularly a player you like AJ, surely you'll be happy to see him play? The whole squad will be buzzing recently, and the team has hardly been unchanged week on week during this great run, with Wallace, McAllister, Richards and Wroe all having started in the middle, and Ainsworth and Wildig both having played on the right. If the players keep starting they will become complacent in their place in the starting team, competition is a good thing. Anyway, we don't want young loanees, here for a couple of months, to be spoiling the atmosphere if someone like Ainsworth is annoyed (quite rightly in my opinion) despite playing brilliantly well this season.
I don't agree with an Arsene Wenger style team coming out in the cup but I honestly believe that our reserves are almost as strong as the first 11 we put out each week. We really do have an impressive squad. Imagine if say Collins grabbed a brace, Taylor put in a brilliant performance and Wallace looks the complete goal scoring midfielder blue and amber forum member has wanted to see for years! Would be fantastic and the competition for selection is already pretty fierce! I just think it's a perfect opportunity to rest the important players before Christmas and let the others - Who will all be desperate to show GT what he's missing out by not selecting them - make cases for a starting berth over the next few weeks.
i dont see the problem with putting the strongest possible team out for this one- teams in the premier league will rest players for games because they have a big game in 4/5 days time. But our next game after this isnt until the following saturday, so players will be no more physically tested than normal, its 7 days in between matches. the only risk i can see is injury to players, but then that is a constant threat. however i agree with matster that the team stated above is also good enough to win, furthermore, i believe if we keep our current squad together then we are capable of reaching the 3rd round of the cup and promotion. COYB!!
The team depends largely on which loanees are permitted to play. Has this been established apart from Wildig (who is possibly missing through injury anyway)? Ps. Wildig is out and West Brom and Everton are yet to give a decision.
now the millers are really up for this game, we need to repell their attack and sally forth into the 3rd round. floreat salopia. come on you shrews breath on 'em
Must win game for Rotherham as they need the cash to build their new ground. Unfortunately for them Steve Harley will not be allowed to play Shrewsbury 2 (Morgan, Gornell) Rotherham 1 (Grab-one which he will do) Attendance 4605
Hurst can play, but not Wallace. I'd imagine team will be summat like this: -------------------------Neal------------------------------- --Hurst-------------Sharps-----SCS------------------JJ----- --Ainsworth--------Wroe--------McAllister---------Wright---- ---------------------Collins---Bradshaw--------------------- And I think a 3-1 win, Collins (x2) and Wright scoring, attendance 5302
well done the shrews 2-1 and 14 shots on target to their 2. we are now in the 3rd round. bring on arsenal we have a score to settle. next week shots away, time for some of our senior players to have a break, perhaps
