was plymouths defence that good or were town a bit light up front. apparently argyle's goal was a stunner. who impressed for town please
Town played pretty well, Morgan threatened several times but Collins got the goal. Wroe worked really well in CM and Richards looked good in places. Ainsworth had some fantastic times down the wing and only Turner will know why he took him off. The defense was generally good, Sharps goofed up a couple of times, and Hazell and Smith needed to communicate more as a couple of times balls left to roll to keeper caused problems. Plymouth brought up a lot of fans and their team played well. Feeney caused a lot of hassel. In the end I think town deserved the win. First half was fifty fifty but town played a lot better on second half.
Having watched a good part of the Wimbledon v Brizzle match on the box, I saw two very average teams. Whereas at the Meadow we were entertained to a feast of cultured football. Plymouth will surprise a few and should not be written off as contenders. We played a lot of decent football and should have sewn the game up well before their goal. A stunner, yes, and not from 12 yards as the BBC would have you believe. More like closer to 20. Mind you, we dithered too long prior to it without effectively clearing the ball.
i hope this is early teething problems for the shrews, which gt can sort. if argyle can sort their finances out, they could as you say cause upsets and suprises. as for some of our opposition, the wombles came back strongly against the gas, which may have suprised them and if the ginger one scores many more he will suprise himself, the shrews and wobblers even more
Both teams cancelled each other out a bit first half but Town upped the tempo second half and deserved a win. Ainsworth was on a going day and was a constant threat and my Man of the Match. Morgan batted well and showed promise but did not finish well and should have scored at least one of three clear chances. 1-0 is often not enough and the old defensive frailties in our midfield resurfaced in the last ten minutes when Plymouth pushed up - surely GT should have replaced Morgan with midfielder Mcalister rather than Gornell in the last few minutes. All in all we showed some promise but I suspect considering Plymouth's current problems we will look back on this as two points lost rather than one gained.
one of the biggest cheers was when goal went for town or when one of our stewards grab one of there fans and through him over the barrier
argyle to their credit brought 1250 fans up to the meadow and their team had 2 players from last season zubar and captain, fletcher playing. 6 were under 21, 3 17yr old apprentices were on the bench, one of them isaac vassell became the 1oth debutante to play. considering their team had never played together before, i for one would not begrudge them a draw, besides most teams feel their way in the first 2 or 3 games. argyle were impressed with the facilities and their warm welcome. let us hope both teams are in contention when town take 1250 down there in march.
First half for town was pants. Plymouth did well, but second half we should have won 3-1 going by some of our shots on goal.
well i was a bit disappointed with our performance, Plymouth have thrown together a very young squad of players, and they matched our experienced ones very well, again and again we let it slip in the last minuet and did not kill off the game...and that cost us promotion last season...lessons learnt?
