At only 19 years old he's already played over fifty games for us, I know he's been in fantastic form for us but if he gets a serious injury which effects his speed we could destroy him.

Should we be looking to rest him this season?

Sterling should definitely wear protection before he has any more kids! <ok>

To me, he has the potential to be our most important player this season. I'm no physician, or expert in how repeated use of him puts him at what risk... certainly he shouldn't be used too much if it risks causing injury... I'd hope we have good physios who know what limits can be applied to him.

His game is about pace, so an Owen/Torres type injury could ruin him.

I dunno though... not sure if he is at risk or not- not my area of expertise.

Well at youth you need to be protected, he plays the game where he can get battered by defenders which can lead to injuires.

Personally I would like him rested for Markovic to start and the same for him.

I actually think Sterling has a lot more to his game than just pace. Owen and Torres relied on it playing on the shoulder of defenders. Sterling is a clever footballer, he is good on the ball and has a good work ethic and strength for someone so small, his pace is just an asset on top of that.

Well, technically Owen and Torres had more than just pace- but once you took that away from them they were half the player they were. I think Sterling would be the same.

I'm not saying it is his only attribute, it certainly isn't; however, he wouldn't be nearly the same player if you took it from him.

What exactly are we protecting him from? not trying yo be awkward but just trying to establish what it is people what. Yes of course I want to protect him from injury but the best way to do that is never play him so that's not an option.

This phrase from MSH'O sort of sums up my issue "certainly he shouldn't be used too much if it risks causing injury".The risk of injury increases with every game played** , so how much is "too much"? To work out how many games present maximum gain for us whilst minimizing the risk as much as possible is a very delicate balance that only those with good knowledge of his physiology and the risk of injuries etc can decide upon.

So would I be happy with him missing games in order to reduce the risk of injury? Before kick off in any given game, not really but I understand why it will happen.

**yes I understand that when a player returns from injury there is probably some sort of inverse correlation that shows risk reducing per games played at first whilst they regain fitness.

PS Yes I did leave work at lunch time today and went to pub on the way home, does it show?

Look its simple, play your best players mash the spuds. If Sterling gets injured then we'll worry about that if/when it happens

Ok makes sense now, although torres going on two year loan is very strange. I really hope it works out for him as we will once again see what I still regard as one of the most beautiful strikers football has ever seen and NO not in that way you bloody deviant!

I'd like us to strap him into a zorb ball before every game. It'd be like having a pet hamster

He's been **** since he left Anfield. He was great for one and a half, two seasons with us and was an excellent up and coming player at Atletico but to say he's one of the greats is ridiculous. His career is a massive let down. I don't know if he ruined himself or if the Chavs ruined him, bit of both I suspect.

Well have Markovic now. I imagine they will rotate to protect each other.

No, he's paid to be an athlete. He doesn't have to go to school, or be an apprentice in a yard, or unemployed. He's paid a million quid a year to run fast and hard and constantly for our entertainment.

Anyone thinks that's harsh....fine. if you haven't had a bad word to say about any player not being good enough and should **** off from our team? Then you're a saint.

Lucas was hated, he bust his balls to the physical limit to be better, he was, he was loved, he ripped himself to pieces, came back slow, he's told to **** off he's ruining the team.....Pick any player to put in his name......so no, we do what we did with Owen and Torres, we make them shine by burning them, they become heroes, get paid **** loads and if they and us are lucky, they get an even bigger pay day just as they know and we know they're burnt out.

Feck I sound like Liv. ......but I stick by it.

When Ferguson touched lucky with the youngsters his youth team staff moulded he never thought of resting them and used them to suit his aspirations, we did the same with Mikey the manc and got the best years of his career out of him.

If we treat Sterling with kid gloves and he continues his potential and progress he'll end up going to another club in the future for big money and they'll get his best years.

Play him whenever possible in his best position and let him flourish at LFC.<ok>

We should protect him. We have options in his position and should use them. If we dont then we only have ourselves to blame if he gets injured and other talents such as Suso move off for free next summer through lack of game time
