With the transfer window now firmly shut and no new faces in at Carrow Road yesterday do you think the club should have pushed the boat out and brought someone in to give the team that extra push towards promotion? Although I understand the club is not in a very strong financial postion, I feel if Brighton were not going to move on Elliott Bennett, we should have had a plan B and tried to sign someone else. I am also disappointed we've let players go at a crucial stage of the season, I hope players such as Oli Johnson and Askou return to the club firing on all cyclinders. However I do still have confidence in the players we have at the club and PL
Plan B? PL obviously thought Bennett would add to the squad for the money we wanted to pay but unfortunately Brighton didnt play ball. Unless there was someone else in mind a Plan B would have been a rushed buy for the sake of it. I dont feel for the money available to PL (which I guess at 1mill tops after the Tierney and loan deals) would have bought very much to the current first team at all. It would have been wasted money on transfer window inflated prices for an average player. I think that we will miss out on promotion unfortunately (fingers crossed im wrong) but I do believe that in the summer PL will be able to identify and bring in decent players at a more reflective value. Along with current first team squad much improved for this season we could then mount a serious challenge next season and all in all be in better shape to tackle the Premiership. However I am sorry to see Nelson leave as we now looking bit light in the CB position but as always in Lambart we trust!
We're still in a very good position, and with a win tonight we stay second - its in our hands. Especially if results go our way. We have a settled squad, something that might be beneficial when compared to the signings that the likes of QPR and Forrest have made. If they make the 5 or 6 changes that they might, then it'll take time for their team to adjust to playing with these new faces. Hopefully in that time their opposition can nick a couple of goals. Also, Lambert not signing anyone else may make the players really believe that he has faith in them to get us promoted, self belief is always helpful. Especially to the likes of Chrissy Martin who are a bit out of form, Lamberts faith in them might have advantages. This squad have got us to where we are, and if we don't make the prem, then as wilder says, we have the summer to regroup, watch our excellent manager bring in a couple of classy, astute signings, then make a strong challenge next season.
