http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...n-spending-in-the-premier-league-8106912.html I would say now that as we are through the net so to speak, imposing a spending cap may help us... especially if we get a new stadium built. It will stop other clubs doing a Chelsea or City... as Uefa FFP may do on a European level (if it ever works).
The leading teams behind this are: ManU because they have the biggest income and therefore would have the biggest spending power. Arsenal because they have big income and don't want to spend anything. Make no mistake they are doing this for their benefit only. If they are truly wanting FFP then it should be at the level of the lowest earners not the highest.
Unsurprisingly it's the clubs who have parasitic owners that want these in place. As they are in it for the money first and foremost and recognise that a lack of winning matches and silverware may decrease personal profit, they are therefore trying to challenge the clubs who are there to bring on field success, via imposing rules on finances and spending. The Glazers should worry about their own club and the debt that they have attached to it before criticising the way others run theirs. Perhaps we should also introduce a debt cap? And John W Henry may want to look at Liverpool's own balance sheet before making his ignorant statements. Just because they spend money on pure crap and get nowhere doesn't mean we don't notice the huge amounts that they spend which puts them deep in the red too.
All I have to say to that is that our recent record in the transfer market and if the reported wages we are paying are to be believed, then it suggests the exact opposite. All we have to go on is the word of the UEFA president who has been one of its biggest backers, based on what was apparently said over three years ago. It would be strange for Roman to genuinely back a spending cap, a bit like Ashley Young backing a crackdown on diving for instance. Maybe what Abramovich said to Platini went along the lines of, "I agree Michelle, in Russia, big spenders cap you!'
This. I might also add that any Spurs or Liverpool fan that believes FFP will benefit them is extremely myopic
It's to stop them doing a City not a Portsmouth. UEFA would hardly be shedding tears if an English team other than United went bust. Althiugh a huge club with a loyal fanbase City went from relegation stragglers/midtable to conceivably having a squad capable of winning the CL. UEFA don't want this. No disrespect to QPR but if they were In a playoff for the last CL spot with United or say Arsenal we all know who UEFA would want to triumph. As certain as I am UEFA never wanted us to win the CL I am equally certain UEFA would rather us have qualified than Spurs just for monetary purposes and publicity. Top European sides would turn their nose up at Spurs, they wouldn't v Chelsea. Like it not Chelsea are amongst the European elite now.
Probably the best description of of FFP I have read. The way EUFA / FIFA are heading is like putting an ash tray on Casey Stoners Honda.
