Let's face it: he hasn't scored in the prem yet. And he had a brief partial revival when Avb, then RDM and FSW took over for a couple of months too. Then his head went down. If Jose can maintain his slightly improved form, he truly is the special one!
During his time with us he has always scored in Europe. Not sure why and not in the Prem. At the end of the day goals are goals and he got 22 last season. Looks better to me so hopefully he can get around that mark again regardless of competition.
Nando had a difficult start with us , but he's now improving all the time! I have a sneaking suspicion he could well end up our player of the year this season!
AVB had no confidence him and turned to Drogba at the first sign of trouble (a player he readily dismissed from day one). Under RDM the build up play was too slow and patient which doesn't suit Torres or any striker we had. Under Benitez he never got a run of games and Benitez clearly preferred Ba in the big games. Above all that though Torres has taken responsibility and taken it upon himself to improve, perhaps being left out the Spain squad may have hurt him, or the fact both Jose/Del Bosque opted to play False 9 in big games. Torres is still easily Spain's best striker and a shoo in to make the squad and team if he continues this kind of forms In Europe he his still held in high regard, it's only in England where we (UK media) take the time to ridicule and mock him. I didn't see any Spanish media doing the same with Kaka who by Madrid's own admission was a flop.
Torres looks to be getting back to something like his best form His work rate and off the ball movement is top quality Just needs a few goals in the Prem to finally get the critics off his back
Exactly. Are we likely to see the Torres of his first 2 years at Liverpool? Probably not but then neither did Liverpool in his final 18 months. Torres was a truely brilliant player for that spell and nothing lasts forever. However his 'demise' is largely over stated. This is a guy who was top scorer at his last 2 international tournaments, has bagged a load of medals during his time with us, scored plenty of goals last year and is playing well this season too. All that is missing is some league goals but he isn't starting every week in the league so hardly a catastprophe. To me, he looks hungry and determined to do well and I think the pressure of the price tag has lifted a little. Long may it continue.
Torres can score or not score; as long as we win I'm not bothered. I'd love him to return to form, but I'd prefer the team to win with or without Torres.
I think one of his greatest attributes is his intelligent runs off the ball, drawing defenders all over the place. This clearly gives our very attack minded midfielders more space to move and shoot/score. Whilst he is judged on his goals (as any striker/forward is), he does have a knack of helping the others score goals for us. As Varier2 says, it is about the winning - which he clearly helps us do. Some might say that's a very expensive use of him. For me, it is about the team and the make-up throughout. From open play, we really do have a wealth of talent who are able to score. That makes us a dangerous team to play against, as there is not just 1 or 2 individuals to try to mark-out the game.
This. I don't care what comp he scores in as the idea is to win them all. Goals are goals. Yes it would be great if he scored every time he plays but winning is more important than Torres scoring.
Interesting piece on JM and FT http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ourinho-got-Fernando-Torres-firing-again.html
All above is true, but on top of all that, through all the managers, styles, and disruption we have endured, we have never had a midfielder to control the play and serve up what Torres thrives on, great through ball to run onto. Recently, he has had a few of those and shown what he's able to do. As our "new" look midfield settles and ups the ante, Torres just might become a regular scorer again, he certainly looks like he's got the old drive back again. Good luck to him.
The price tag thing certainly didn't help! Now that Bale's gone off to Real I guess Nando must think he's cheap at 50 mil.
I say celebrate while we can. If he falls again then so be it but at the moment I would definitely play him above our other so called strikers.
Yep, good call, since none of them are scoring much in PL, Torres work off the ball and his positioning are heaps better than Ba of Eto'o. Torres is playing very well indeed, and will soon bang a few goals in I am sure. hard work usually gets results eventually.
