With such a fantastic start to the season, and a very well fought finale to the last, do we need to worry about poachers? I don't think any of us lit up at the sound of Cotterills name when it was announced, but its turned out to be a huge leap into the right direction by a very dodgy decision making board. But with managers as usual being sacked left right and centre, or leaving on their own accord like Bahhhdiff and Port Vale today alone, when do we start to look over our shoulder at the possibility someone higher up the football league ladder might come enquiring? I hope not, and I am glad to see Cotterill is proving me wrong at what a straight talking, level headed, sensible manager he is showing at BCFC.
Right offer comes in he would probably go- He has managed at a higher level before and would no doubt be tempted-There is no sentiment when the boot is on the other foot such as Cardiff today- Cant see that Port Vale would interest him with respect, but Hartley has already said no. Pulis reckons not to have been contacted but I reckon he would want a Prem club.
I thought exactly the same IBR when I heard the Cardiff news. Cotterill will undoubtedly attract attention but I reckon he knows when he is on to good thing. And as for Cardiff this time next year we could be above them in the league.
IF and it is a big IF, City have turned the corner and we are on the way to bigger things like perhaps bigger than 1976-80, then SC would be rather foolish to walk away now. IF the above scenario takes off and we could be in the top tier in two years to coincide with completion of the AG rebuild, then SC will be like a god at City. I see Hartley is preferring to carry on building his career and the club at Dundee, so perhaps SC would think the same. Plus the fact that with a lunatic like Tan, whoever goes to Cardiff could be sacked before the end of this season. If you were SC, would you even consider leaving us at this time? I wouldn't.
Mr Cotts strikes me as an honest fellow In these times of lying, false promises, contracts that aren't worth the paper they are written on, way too much MONEY above all, and all that other ****e, he would be a fool to walk away anytime soon, especially to somewhere like Cardiff (ha !!) with a ****ing lunatic in charge, plus I think he has more decency about him than to do so anyway. Managers on the lookout for better jobs unsettle their teams as well. **** me after writing all that I hope I'm right !!!!!!!!!
After his speach that he's a West Country boy, and wants to see one in the prem I doubt he will want to leave, I think he wants what we all want. So hopefully he's a man of his words and sees the job through.
I agree with ROD, I think his roots are here, and his heart is here. This was probably an ideal club for him, as he is local'ish and knows our potential and has seen the backing the club gives failing managers, and how financially capable they are. I wasn't suggesting Port Vale would be an option for him, just that managers are chopped and changed at a moments notice these days, and it wouldnt surprise me if another 15 clubs above us in the pyramid had vacancies before Christmas. Like has been said though, sensible guy, and speaks with passion which is nice compared to the last pleb.
Managers, like players, will always attract attention when they are doing well. Sure, Cotts has us off to a good start and did well to keep us up last year but in the grand scheme of things he has achieved nothing to date at BCFC. Promotion would be an achievement and maybe then it would be realistic to move on if the right offer came along....but why would you when you have just achieved something and will more than likely get a big bonus! I agree that Mr. Tan over the border is a madman and any manger with any sense of class will steer clear of him, even though Cardiff is a great club. Lansdown is not a knee jerk owner and Cotts surely knows that he will have a long career here if he delivers...and based on recent years, the definition of "delivers" is probably relatively low!
SC has a point to prove, he has had success at this level previously but has never really had it in the Champ or Prem. If he sticks with us and gets us up he knows he will have time and the City board is considerably more patient than the guy at Cardiff. At City he will have the chance to build something over a few years and leave a legacy, at Cardiff if he doesn't get promotion this season he will be sacked for sure. To me it's a no brainer stick with a club that will back you and give you the chance to build something.
Again, not suggesting Fulham is likely to come knocking, just another example though of how quickly managers are shown the doors, and how often vacancies for higher clubs become available. Not suggesting he would leave though, but future imminent sackings/walkouts are likely to be Bolton, Birmingham, maybe Brighton and Blackpool! All clubs I could see Cotts being the right level for.
