Swansea City boss Michael Laudrup has added his voice to those calling for the transfer window to close prior to the start of the Premier League season.

I think he has a point there, with the Bale & Rooney transfer saga going on and on while their teams are playing.

Open & close the window 2 weeks earlier ?

    Thought?

Definitely agree, it should be closed when the season starts , case in point Arsenal, look at their scatter gun approach. They have enquired about our CB , and after the injury to their CB last night I expect they come knocking again. They upset Newcastles team last weekend, after offering money for a midfielder and now apparently after two from Real Madrid, and lets be fair they are not the only team.

No for me the transfer season should be two weeks after the season finishes to Midnight 48 hrs before the start of the new season.

Lets everybody know where they stand Team and Fans alike .

I fully believe that the transfer window should open once the playoffs are finished and then shut by the 1st August. Teams can then get on with their pre seasons without any disruptions, on who's coming or going etc.

Imagine now if your a spurs fan and you'r kids idolise Bale and then get a shirt with his name in it, then only weeks later to go to Madrid, I'd be miffed to outlay at least £50 on this.

On a winter transfer window, this should be for a one week period at the start of January.

I hate the way the transfer window unsettles the player, team and club. As Laudrup and I'm sure any team manager would say the same, whats the point in offering these big money offers for a key players, when you would have to replace him and if you don't then it could be a very long season!!!

The summer transfer window open until 2nd September after most clubs have set their stall out and played 3 or four games is a complete farce.

Suarez not playing because of his ban is fair enough, but Bale hasn't played officially because of an injury <doh> - what a bloody joke!!

The transfer ban principle of preventing clubs buying success later (or even buying survival) is sound, but it should definitely close before the season starts.

The January window is another minefield, but there's very little that can be done about that.

Either you allow clubs to strengthen in that brief period in the New Year, or you scrap it altogether. There's often far more at stake at that point in the season as the table positions become more relevent, and any wealthy club that finds itself in a hole can attempt to buy their way out of trouble.

It doesn't always work though. Thank God QPR/'arry/Fernandes got is so wrong - what a shambles that was!

I think the window should be firmly closed as soon as the first ball of the season is kicked.

I'd go along with all of that. It seems very odd that Rooney could play against Chelsea this week and play for them the week after. <doh>

Although The Special One has said he won't put in a third bid until after the game. It's not what you say when you play mind games!!!

I suppose clubs need an opportunity to strengthen in January after 5 months of the season but the prices can be even more inflated then and players more of a gamble.

Personally, I believe the close season and up to the week before a ball is kicked in anger. It may be a bit of faff with the championship and below starting earlier but by then most season long planning is in place. Any players purchased after that will have an inflated price and generally only the big bidders get involved anyway. Hope that makes sense...

Of course it should close before the season starts, you can still use the loan system..

I think we all agree that it should close before a ball is kicked but the issue here is that todays transfers span more than the PL and the Football league and any closure pre-season would need to take account of European leagues etc. End of July would be a good position to bring stability.

    I disagree!

Just get rid of the transfer window completely. It's only real legacy is artificially inflating players prices, panic buying, rich agents and continuous nonsensical rumours.

The transfer window is another nonsense of the modern game, along with agents.

    Scrap the window altogether.

I've never really known football without the window :( Surely we would be **** scared of losing all our best players at any time of the year ala Whittingham. Care to tell me what it was like back in the day? ;)

Aye lad, them were the days.

If you could kick a wet football more than 30 yards, you'd have been signed by City - if you'd headed it, you get treated for concussion...........<laugh>

And if your leg was broken in a foul you'd be called a wuss for screaming.

    Yes this.

Imagine you lose an important player to a serious injury in early September, you have to wait 4 months to actually buy someone for cover if there's not any loan options. The bigger clubs would cope down to their squad size but the others may find it a struggle

I thought that going back to the non window days could be a good thing but the thought of Chelsea & Man City starting a bidding war for a striker 6 games before the end of the season made be think again.

Imagine those neck to neck to win the prem with 6 games to go, the silly money paid today would be nothing compared to what they would pay to get a slight edge.

It would mean the new super rich clubs could just fix whatever issues they had mid season by spending even more too.

At least a side can put together a 25 and after jan know its a level playing field till the trophies are handed out.

My libertarian streak means I'm totally against the trasnfer window, but if there has to be one, I tend to agree.

Teams that make it to the champions league final, or if the prem was to be decided between 3 teams on the final day, the teams would be buying all the top talent they can get hold of before the match. It would be absolute chaos.
Imagine what qpr would have done everytime they lost a game last year! <yikes>
There has to be some sort of structure, although it probably does close a bit to late into the season.
