Man City are a bunch of pricks. But I do commend them on their intentions to try out new standing areas at the ****ty of Manchester. It's about time someone stuck up 2 fingers to the "won't someone please think of the children?!" safety police kill-joy nob jockeys who are campaigning against it and ruining atmospheres up and down the country. Yes Hillsborough was a tragedy, but was brought about by fencing and overcrowding, do the campaigners against really believe such complacency would be allowed to happen again? Besides, Germany have already shown it can be done. I bet 95% of those against it have never been to a football match in their lives.
Wrong oil money funded stadium... I think it should, but it generally won't. The big clubs will be against it cos they know they won't be able to charge the same for a standing as for a seating ticket, and so have no need to reduce capacity as they will sell out anyway. The only clubs who will back it are ones like City, Villa and West Ham who all have, or will soon have, stadia that are too big for their fan bases, and so want the option to sell cheap standing tickets to boost capacity whilst still being able to charge full price seating tickets for the fans they could attract without the terraces. The FA and PL will probably be against it cos they seem to be against anything vaguely sensible that might improve atmosphere in the grounds, but may have a negative impact on TV audiences as the terraces inevitably lead to more 'boisterous' chanting...
The home stands of the City of Manchester stadium is like the holding pens for the people that go on shows the likes of Jeremy Kyle. Just teach them the difference between right and wrong, Job's a gudd'n...
The away fans end up standing throughout games, so it shouldn't be that difficult to have a standing section for the home fans.
Yes. 100% yes, they should. Safety really shouldn't be an issue as when disasters have happened they have always been in cramped pens and bringing back standing can be managed. Germany should be the blueprint for how football is all about the spectators and not the clubs/players/tv in every single aspect. German football is for the fans, English football is about anything BUT the fans. The match going supporters are absolutely meaningless to the FA and the clubs (at board level, not the teams & manager), apart from being faceless bringers of cash. The clubs don't give a flying **** for the supporters anymore and anyone thinking otherwise is, frankly, a ****ing idiot. Bring back some standing areas, make them cheap and let less fortunate folk watch matches and create some atmosphere. Sermon over.
Agree. Standing much better. Loved standing in the scoreboard end when Dixon scored. Much better atmos at Old T than Anfield (overrated) whenever we went up there too
