approx 11% of Sky Sports revenue comes from Scottish viewers, yet we receive a pittance as payment for our football. In 2017 the bottom club in the EPL will receive £99M. If Scottish fans decided to threaten and even carry out a boycott, could it force Sky to up payments to our clubs. Personally, I rarely watch EPL games. I watch Scottish games CL games and some SPANISH games. I wonder how many Scottish viewers are similar, or even feel that they would not really miss EPL games. Frankly, it is all getting a little boring tbh. Even some CL games are not worth watching unless you have some form of vested interest. The extra money will come from increased viewers fees. Market forces may lead to fewer viewers on its own, but that will only reduce payment to scottish clubs. Have we reached the point where Scottish fans have to organise, as they did in the summer of 2012 to bring the scottish football authorities into line, but this time to obtain a fairer deal for our clubs.
**** me, is that right what the relegated club gets in 2017? Jesus H Christ, the game is all twisted out of shape. I take absolutely no notice of the premier league.
I think it is ****ing astonishing the difference money has made to the game. How many teams have a genuine chance of winning the European cup (****in hate the CL) each year? And then there's us having to jump through hoops just to play in a tournament we don't have a ****ing chance of winning!. It's becoming grotesque.
Think that would be bad for the game in the longer term - at least Celtic are all over Sky Sports now with a much wider audience, which gives the club exposure and surely helps promote the overall brand. For about a decade under the Setanta deal SSN pretended we didn't exist. I think the SPFL should declare that they will not do a joint deal next time around - the only reason they accepted a joint deal in the first place was because Setanta collapsed, and then Rangers died which put them in a weak position to negotiate a better deal. If the new-Huns get back in the SPFL I think the league might be of particular interest to BT Sports as they build their portfolio, which might spur Sky to get the chequebook out after they lost the CL rights.
Dunno, do you cheapen the brand by giving it away for free on terrestrial rather than try flog it as a premium product? (anyone remember the British Wrestling on Saturday ITV, which seemed terrible compared to WWF on Sky?) It might get more viewers, it might help get more sponsorship because of those viewers - but in kids minds you'll be the cheap crap you watch because your parents are tight ****s, and all your friends in school will slag you off for supporting one of those freeview teams instead of a big brand team from the posh telly channels, etc.
Scottish football ****ed it by going fir sentanta...now, we get treated like ****e as we are desperate. We feed off crumbs. Now we can't even get decent sponsors ...
welcome back, Albie. Top drawer stuff from you, as per usual. The sevconians will be in full beel mode when they see you back.
