Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes an independent panel retrospectively punishing divers would be a "disaster". (Source: BBC Football website) Well, it's not a surprise that The Smug One is dead against this idea! He's worried that not only will it cost him at least 12 points every season, but he'll be forced to send out the reserves every four games! Me, I think it's a great idea. I never understand those professional players and pundits who condone it and who say, "well, if you can get away with it, why not!" and "it's up to the ref to stop it." Bollocks! It's cheating, and nobody likes a cheat. If you dive and cheat your way to an advantage, you should be punished for it. Personally, I don't think bans go far enough. I think the FA should impose retrospective points deductions. That'll stop cheats like the The Smug One in his tracks, and allow the truly great managers to get on with the job of winning within the rules. What do you guys think?
Man Utd would come off worse, we only have a few each year but like City our reserved ones are better than most.
Definitely. A panel containing a couple of ex-professionals and someone from the FA should make the decisions. Would be terrible for Chelsea - as expressed by Jose this morning.
The problem is, where do you stop with that kind of retrospective punishment? First it's diving, then why not retrospective yellow or red cards for other stuff the officials miss? Deliberate Handball, foul or dangerous play, feigning injury, general gamesmanship etc, etc,....you could end up with more players sitting in the stands on a ban, than on the pitch.
Clear cut cheating. Ie, a dive where there is clearly no contact made is punished. Someone trying to influence the referee in booking someone. A deliberate handball. Its easy to judge the clear cut ones so punish them. The less clear cut ones may get away with it but would players run the risk? Especially if there is a sufficient deterrent attached to the crime.
Retrospective bans do happen in RFU now. But usually only for foul or dangerous play. Having said that, Delon Armitage has just been banned for 3 months for calling some Leicester supporters "inbred ****s"
Simple. If you dive, you get a three match ban. If you deliberately cheat in other ways, you get a three match ban. They'll soon stop or bugger off to La Liga.
So we would lose Young. Not exactly an issue. Who would you lose. Costa Drogba Cahill Hazard Oscar Fabregas Willien Basically everyone. And your reserves are ****e. Hencr why you play your full team in every game possible.
It can't just be diving, that's my point. Why just pick on that particular offence when there are things just as bad, and worse going unpunished. Similarly, it would have to work both ways. At the moment you can't appeal a yellow card. That would have to change to give players and clubs the chance to appeal against cards given by error of officiating.
UTD players are not in the same league as Routemaster FC divers, they have 7 olympic golds to their name. Jose would be stuffed, hope it happens
Diving is disgraceful, much like hypocrisy. But retrospective is a great idea, let's go back to when it first started... please log in to view this image
