BRISTOL CITY TALKING POINT: From The Bristol Post : Jay Emmanuel-Thomas's performance at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday proved a major talking point among Bristol City fans who were at Gresty Road. A talismanic figure who has scored seven goals since arriving from Ipswich in the summer, the 22-year-old Londoner has shown he is a born match-winner. please log in to view this image RyanTaylor Bristol City fans are asking should Ryan Taylor start alongside Sam Baldock against Brentford on Tuesday. But his lack of consistency has drawn criticism in certain quarters and a growing number of City fans are questioning his value to the team following his display in Cheshire. Emmanuel-Thomas squandered City's best chance midway through the first half and was never the same thereafter. He was eventually replaced by Ryan Taylor after an hour, after which the Robins improved as an attacking force. No doubt swayed by his languid style, some fans have labelled the former Arsenal forward "lazy" and questioned his commitment to the cause when things are not going well on the pitch. Such accusations are unfair and wide of the mark, but it seems reasonable to ask whether the team might not function better with Ryan Taylor or Marlon Harewood alongside Sam Baldock in attack. Because Emmanuel-Thomas has such outstanding natural ability and is comfortable on the ball, he tends to slow play down to his own preferred tempo. He does this because, unlike most other players, he can. But that is sometimes detrimental to a team that relies on counter-attacking at pace. Certainly City looked more dangerous going forward following the introduction of Taylor at Gresty Road and the question for Robins fans is this; should head coach Sean O'Driscoll make changes to his attack for Tuesday's crunch home game against Brentford? 100% yes apparantly not interested yesterday, pack was shocking as well,oh i think the hole bloody team should be dropped, they are not worthy of the red and white shirt. I have not rated the thomas- baldock partnership since day one. If taylor is the saviour fantastic, but i do not rate him as a player at championship or league 1 level. Still it cannot be any worse than what has gone before us. Louis will replace Flint as he will be banned,at least we will have a leader on the pitch.
Apparantly very very poor yesterday, why should he be given prefferential treatment. He has not given his all for a number of games now. I want to see a JeT that took Coventry apart in the second half almost destroying them on his own,not the player that is giving 15 minutes to the cause. Yes he can produce a flash of magic, but he needs to bring more to his game.
because RR. We have a very small team. Take JET out and replace him with who? Harewood? Taylor? Kilkenny? No thanks
I mentioned this weeks ago and got shot down. Shiny think about it properly mate please. Yes he's scored yes he's looked brilliant at times. But have we won in the league with him? No So something is not working and we need battlers not one minutes magic. It's his way or no way, he don't help out in defence, he won't win in the air.. You can blame the rest of the team but it's correct he will slow it down to much. I get a good view from my seat looking down onto the pitch and the amount of times Baldock makes good runs it's either wasted ball through to him or it's too late so he's off side. Who gets the blame Baldock but he created the opening but didn't get the ball. Rooney plays this free role but he works hard, and battles back. Aguero does the same plays just behind the forward but he works hard. I'm not saying he's in their league at all but we need workers to get us out of this mess.
I agree ROD but unlike last the last 2/3 season we have a small squad with little rotation. Harewood and Taylor are less useful than JET and don't offer as much as he does in 5 minutes. If we had another forward then yes I would say drop JET but the truth is we have nobody. Our bench is there to be laughed at. If it isn't going right we have NOBODY to change the game.
We've not really seen a Baldock Harewood partnership yet A lot of us believe Taylor Baldock works it's just a shame Taylor gets injured to much. Is that because he puts himself about? Taylor is there to help out in defence as well at set pieces. Unfortunately none of us has seen Taylor on a run of games, the only times we have seen him properly was when he played alongside Davies who always played behind him. We always seem to play one up front. McInnes and SoD seem to like this, Baldock played out too wide for McInnes, he wasted Baldock and I'm afraid SoD is wasting his ability as well. They say the Taylor Le Fondre partnership was fantastic, and if I'm correct wasn't that in this league?
Yes, I would drop him and replace him with Wes Burns who will give us some more pace up front. I'm pleased with the contribution Bryan and Reid are making so make it a trio of our young guns. Dunk should replace Flint.
Dunk should play Tuesday otherwise he will be just a waste of time getting him, like McInnes getting Danny Wilson last season. Would like to see Burns play more often.
Taylor cannot score and will not score, league 2 is his standard we took a chance on him ,has it worked no.
Definite NO!!! You can't leave out your best player, simple. Fact of the matter is, they were all a shambles yesterday, and ALL have been a shambles for a good two thirds of this campaign so far, except JET, who for a few minutes of every game produces more quality than most of his teammates do in 10 games. As for Pack, he is a poor mans Cole Skuse, and Cole Skuse was a bargain bucket player himself who provided very little in terms of defense, or attack.
That is an opinion not supported by scoreline. Defensively it was ok, compact had shape all that. A clean sheet would have been a reasonable reflection.
What was the score Cliftonville? Only stats that really matter is the scoreline, and looking at the main stats of shots and shots on target, in comparison to a team we should be easily competing against, we were shambolic... A draw when you are bottom of the league is not a good result by any stretch, it seems as if SOD has already resigned himself to thinking about fighting against a successive relegation opposed to fighting for a playoff spot!!!
It was 0-0 till extra time. The team [except!] did compete. Crewe were restricted to very few clear chances. The team was not a shambles. No exaggeration.
I consider anything less than 6 attempts on goal a shambles at this level in the position we need to get ourselves out of... People on the radio said that it was non-inventive football that then turned into hoofball and that Crewe could have had 4 goals before half time. Our one shot on target came from a stupid back pass that JET picked up.... If I was a fan who had made the 4/5 hour round trip to see just that, I would call it a shambles. I wouldn't spend the money it costs to watch an away game these days to be happy with my team "restricting the opponents ability to win the game" and do nothing else. The same way I wouldn't pay the money to watch two boring old farts play draughts when one of them has no intention of trying to win the game.
No shambles then as one half of the team did a job. Results fan then!! Even the best, even the brilliant attempt to restrict the opponents ability to win the game. Best teams in Europe do that including their superstars. Good day out spoilt a bit by the match but hey ho good, bad crap that's what football is.
