Very unlucky and Wigan hit the bar late on in the second half ...........can anyone see any of these small sides playing in this joke of a pre big boyz entrance make a show if they make it to the real important stage? Is it affecting Wigans Championship form or are they happy to earn the cash and just be a stable side in the league there are in? JH
Its bound to affect them 46 games in The Championship plus these games. Their opposition werent down to 10 men either - unlike the team playing the other small rugby town in the competition.
I think the Europa League plays an important part for clubs that are not good enough for the big European competition but are growing in their development. You will get sides like Wigan that play in a lower tier but generally it is clubs from the top league of their country. Should Wigan have lost? Yes the result shows they deserved to lose, plenty of opportunities to score and they failed. Now they can concentrate on the league as I do not think they will progress. Should Swansea have won? No, they had fewer clear opportunities and Ruban were the better team in the 2nd half. A unfortunate red card should have seen Swansea take control but they didn't.
Soz lads but never mentioned swansea as did not knew they played till now , 1-1 was it ?.................;O) I have never heard of most of the teams that are in it , i expect the same go`s for them....
Let's be honest, If we could play in this tournament would we turn it down ? Fair play, Swansea & Wigan not doing too bad and the money it brings in is not to be sneezed at. Whether it hit's their league form to much is for them to decide, I wish them both good luck.
For sides like Swansea and Spurs it is also an opportunity to give squad players competitive (of a sort in some cases) first team football. They both played 6 or 7 players tonight who would not be in a Saturday first choice 11 at present.
I wonder if that means the normal quota for the country of the winning Europa Cup team will lose one off the quota?
It will make CL football a possibility for most Premier League teams - via FA & Carling Cup or finishing 5th/6th.
