    This quote is promising ;

“We’ll see what happens next year and which players come to us."

JOSE ENRIQUE feels Newcastle United have laid good foundations for next season after a solid first term back in the Premier League.

The Spaniard chose to remain tight-lipped over his own future, with Liverpool and Bayern Munich linked with the Toon left-back, but admitted he was happy with how the season is ending for United following the 2-1 win over Birmingham City.

And Enrique has thanked the Toon Army for given him a rip-roaring chorus of his name towards the end of the victory over the Blues.

But looking ahead to next season, Enrique told the Chronicle: “To finish in the top 10 is important this season.

“We’ll see what happens next year and which players come to us.

“We have a great squad here though, and we have been very unlucky with injuries.

“Next season we will hopefully get new players and try to build on a top-10 finish.”

The former La Liga ace also feels there is still plenty of spice left in the final two matches of the campaign.

And added: “It would be very nice for us to finish ahead of Sunderland.

“I remember they were happy to see us go down, but now we are in Premier League and we have been better than them so far – it’s important we keep going.

“When you play with one less like Birmingham did, it is hard.

“But we tried to play football for our fans – and that is what we have to keep going,”

One of his best performances of his last 8-10 games yesterday I thought, was good defensively and linked up well with Gutierrez, please stay Jose!

Aim for the stars and you may just hit the moon.
Aim at the intern and you're Ashley Cole.

Next season we should aim to break into that infamous 'top 9'.

If ashley takes his hand ot of his pocket then we could be close to top 7/8 but if his eyes start lighting up when people ask about Jose et al i worry!

If we can build sensibly, retain the majority and replace where needs be (unintentional rhyme, but i'll take it) then we are certainly capable of reaching the top 6...

We are in mid table despite losing our most creative flair player for 99% of the season, our best goal scorer and a top assister for 50% of the season and a squad the size of pigs dick (I hear they are very thin)...

No-one gets anywhere without luck, and if its on our side for long enough next season and we can bring in a couple of real quality players we're as good a first 11 as anyone outside the top 4!

Next season, if we spend correctly, we should be staying well ahead of the likes of Bolton, Stoke and Fulham. We should ideally be battling with Everton and Liverpool up there near the top. The mackem's might also be included in this tussle - depending on who they buy in the Summer and who leaves.

    From the Evening Chronicle...

He's saying the right things I guess, maybe he is open to staying in the summer if his contract is good enough he may be genuinely waiting to see who we sign.

I'm already part-resigned to losing him but there's always hope. He'll be very difficult to replace.

I'm resigned to losing him but I really think if we show our intentions and sign some talent over the summer then he could be persuaded.

    Fingers crossed I guess...

    Merged.

The fact he's talking about next season suggests he hasn't agreed a move yet, but he won't commit to the club and he's sold his house. I don't know what he'll do, I'm still 90% sure he'll leave, but these comments have let a little bit of doubt creep in.
