Should i feel bad about myself?

  1. Tomorrow is most likely my last day on the job, and i will most likely be unemployed for about 3-4 weeks at the least. I'm applying for two decent jobs, but the interview dates aren't until next month. I'm also applying for a couple of other jobs which i haven't had replies back from yet. The two jobs i'm applying for, if i'm successful with one of them, would mean i would be earning around 18k a year, and one of them lets me earn my NVQ level 3.

What i feel about is that i'll be sitting around living on the dole for about a month, and i know there's nothing wrong with claiming dole money, but i just feel extremely bad getting money in which i didn't earn. I don't know how all those charva's that leave school with a bunch of **** GCSE's and live on the dole, can live with themselves, i really can't.

I just feel bad really about claiming dole like. I don't personally feel like going to the job centre and signing up for it. My mam and dad say i should stop being ridiculous and that everyone is entitled to it, but i just feel like a lazy bastard for some reason :S

You're in between jobs, and you've worked previously and are of course, looking for a job still. You need the money. Whereas others, as you say, are getting it when they're not even bothering with looking for jobs.
Don't feel bad. Its there for people in your situation after all.

You have paid for it, you pay tax and NI don't feel bad about claiming, the other aspect is that you can get assistance with travel to interviews as well, the only issue may be how much savings you have as you will have to declare these if you claim job seekers allowance.

In these situations, you've just gotta think, especially if you're anti-tory, **** the government and claim what you can from them. Especially since you said you worked for the NHS? **** the tories then. You amount you would've got taxed anyway it's just getting back what's yours.

Tash don't blow your savings if you can claim JSA, as I've already said you pay Tax and NI so the system should support you when you need it.

"Ooh, it's half past nine. Time for men, men with jobs, to go to work. Other men stay in bed until dinnertime watching Tots TV, thinking about how worthless and pathetic they are... Good morning, jobseekers"

No shame in that Tash. I was on the dole for about a year when I was your age and hated it. Something will come along, and in the meantime, don't feel guilty about taking any money that you deserve/earned. I hope something comes along for you soon.

You're claiming what you're entitled to. Thats what the system exists for, no reason to feel bad or guilty.

I was in a similar situation before I came to Uni. I felt bad about claiming Jobseekers allowance while I was looking for a job because I didn't need it. Apparently there's something to do with National Insurance where if you aren't on the dole or in employment you lose your stamp (no idea what it means), so everyone advised me to do it. At the end of the day, when you start working your taxes are going to be paying for plenty of work-shy freeloaders, you might as well claim a bit of it back while you're out of work. <ok>

You've paid your taxes, you've nothing to feel guilty about, especially considering you're actively looking for work.

I had a long period of unemployment a few years back, made me feel sick and like a scrounger but what good is feeling bad going to do?

Also, it's the government who've laid you off, it's their fault not your's, so they should pay.

can't be bothered to read through the rest of the posts, but my opinion is if someone gets the breaks then no you shouldn't feel guilty, you've got to whats best for you and should never feel bad.

i was on jsa a few months ago for about a month, if you've got 9 or 10 grand in the bank im not even sure if you'll be entitled to it..i think you have to have savings of less than 7 or 8 grand..although i might be wrong.

If Jordan is right (<yikes>, never thought I'd be saying that) then you needn't bother at all because you wont be entitled to it <ok>.

But theres no harm in you claiming it, to be honest its meant for people like you (actively looking for a job) rather than the dicks who just happily scrounge off it and have no intentions of getting a job.

    Go for it.
