whats it now last 7 games he has reffed we havent won. red card for eto and blatant penalty are 2 shocking decisions i can think of, maybe fergie does still have an influence on refs
Even without yesterday the answer is no. He avoids big decisions so much it's a disgrace. He's more concerned with positioning himself politically for his next job than actually doing the one he's currently paid for.
If other refs can be stood down after a gaff, he should be too... His decision making yesterday (and of late) as been "interesting" but lets be honest, if we had our finishing boots on, then Webb, even with his ****e performance would have been a non-factor
He didn't exactly do great the last time there was a major competition, did he? He's alright, but as proven with De Jong four years ago never mind the countless PL games, he bottles the big calls and gives the easy decisions to make himself look better. **** referee, but unfortunately, still one of the best the EPL has. That says alot. No he shouldn't ref high profile games, but then, who else can?
I gauranteed before the game that he would bottle at least one big decision. In the end it was at least three; second penalty claim plus the Podolski and Gerrard instances. He is too concerned about his world cup place. He should be dropped for being so reserved, never mind for being a ****.
I believe his approaches every game the same way i.e. how does this decision reflect upon me. That is a very poor way to act when you are supposed to be the arbiter of fact. Therefore I will vote NO.
This He will not make the big decisions if it will paint him as the villain (against home teams or bigger teams). It seems he always gets praise for the way he handles the players. Not wanting to dwell on yesterdays game, but the commentary team creamed themselves over how fairly and responsibly Webb handled a hotheaded Sterling yesterday but didn't bother mentioning why Sterling was hotheaded - because Webb chose to ignore he was being held back and then incorrectly awarded a goal kick.
I think many other referees would have handled the Sterling touch better anyway. Ignoring the fact that the foul and corner were blatantly obvious, he's the only ref arrogant enough to turn a touch into such an incident in the first place. So he was praised for being a big enough twat to make something of nothing but not so big of a twat to turn it into the main talking point of the game. It is a small kind of progress I guess. Massively overrated.
