Got to love the short sightedness of Swansea's councillors. What do councillors do exactly?? http://www.swanseacity.net/page/Latest/0,,10354~2606008,00.html
What a buch of dick heads. Why do people abstain from voting, a complete waste of a vote. Should be either yes or no not hard is it, your either for it or against it. Very short sighted by the council. Now if the stadium expansion takes place, then they could incorporate this into the design, Newcastle have with Shearers bar.
Have to say this is unbelievable, the council were responsible in the first place, for poor expansion planning of the stadium, and now that we are exploring the issues, they go and put this white elephant into the proceedings, words fail me!..........
Let's not take this lying down - if enough of us make enough noise - then the council will have to take notice. Start writing those letters to the media and signing the various petitions that are already springing up! Remember there is an election not too far away and for the cretins on the council that is the bottom line - if they think they are alienating thousands of Swans fans they may be forced to reconsider!
I'd like to say 'unbelievable' but it's not. Bunch of egg-chasing fans probably, and the expansion would only make their tiny crowds look even worse. If ever there was a case for buying the stadium this is it. Just what Swansea needs - another ****ing Maccy D's!
Every Swans fan should make themselves heard on this issue, this is totally wrong and the council should be made accountable. Write to your council leader, your local councillor and also email Sian James the MP at [email protected] who gave her backing to this ridiculous decision. We must try and force a rethink by our council on this issue if we want our club to have the opportunity to expand the stadium.
In a country which is already obese I think it's absurd that they are backing a short term fix which will provide fast fatty foods for cheap prices. There are already enough of these chains around for people that choose to eat their rubbish but the expansion of the Stadium and the expansion on Swansea's Premier League Status will provide far more than 70 jobs at an unhealthy eaterie for the long term of the city! Bloody councilors! Is some sort of protest out of the question?
This is ******ed. The council didn't want this, but the councillors overturned their recommendation at committee level. Bonkers. One can only assume some heavy brown envelopes changed hands somewhere?
Just sent this to the Evening Post - anyone agree with me? Swansea City Council have been quick to jump on the bandwagon during a fantastic year for the Swans; praising them for their magnificent achievements - salivating over the raised profile of the city of Swansea - revelling in the extra money that a Premier League football team brings into the local economy - and generally swanning about (pardon the pun) and basking in the reflected glory of our magnificent football team. It was only a matter of time before they reverted to type and made a decision that would make the Chuckle Brothers proud. With Huw Jenkins and the board planning to maximise the success of the team by extending the stadium and providing seats for some of the thousands of Jacks who missed out on a season ticket this term, our happy band of council clowns - going against professional advice - decide that what the city really needs is another McDonalds! As short sighted decisions go, this must rank up there with getting rid of the Mumbles tram (the first passenger railway in the world lest we forget!). These are the people we have elected to act in the best interests of our city, and once again they prove that they are really not up for the job! Their crass decision has been met with howls of derision from all intelligent quarters; but will they listen - don't hold your breath! Our very own incarnation of the three monkeys; see no, hear no, speak no; will just plough ahead and grab the money from the path of least resistance. Why bother trying to maximise the marketing impact that a world class sports team could have on our city when it is far easier to sell a few burgers? The former sounds like a lot of hard work, whilst the latter means that they may score a complimentary Happy Meal now and again! As a current season ticket holder, and a regular visitor and contributor to the many SCFC forums that exist on the internet, I would like to inform the great, good and inadequate of our council that their decision has generated a lot of bad feeling - with not a single post in support of their imbecilic decision - in fact the general mood in the virtual world is one of anger and incomprehension. Our very own Chuckle Brothers will no doubt argue that they are creating much needed jobs by bringing yet another Ronald McDonald franchise to the city. But once again this is shortsighted in the extreme - increased capacity at the Liberty will create far more direct, and indirect, jobs. If our elected representatives just took a moment to think about the bigger picture they may just see this but, as I said before, don't hold your breath! Roll on the next election, it can't come quickly enough - let's get rid of the Chuckle Brothers and fill the council seats with people who really do have the best interests of our city at heart!
Good post Cartoon! You pointed out how the councils have been going on about our Premiership status and so did HJ. I was really glad to see that he pointed out that they were quick enough to jump on the bandwagon!! Good old Huw.
"Planning permission already existed for 2 restaurants on the site" http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A40644614 People wouldn't believe me at the time!
Just found this which was attached to the original application - it's the area (in red) shown on this picture;
Top post, CH, but they'll contact you to edit out some of the more colourful name-calling. Personally, I'd print it as it is!
go to the next council meeting and have a go CH and make sure you have sent every councellor a copy of your letter by reg post so thay cannot claim not to have received it
