Does anyone else think that we shot ourselves in the foot deciding to let Sharp out on a season long loan ? Personally I think Guly should of been the one who went to Forest. I am not slating Guly, as I have liked him as a player ever since we signed him, but I feel he is not Premier League quality and dosn't offer much to the team anymore. I feel Sharp would give us so much more, I mean look at the work he put in the second half of last season where as for Guly ever since the Palace game at home he has lost his ability to head the football.

Also does anyone believe that Guly has a clause in his contract that says he has to play ? Because Adkins is no mug to me but I can't see how the manager still hasn't noticed that Guly isn't offering much to the team...

Personally no! Jrod was always going to be in front of Billy. Guly did well when he came on and offers some physical presence which Billy has not got!

Not really - Guly is way more versatile and I thought he has done OK whenever called upon so far this season, playing in various positions.

Sharp, although a great poacher is particularly strong, tall or quick, and I think we have stronger options. Keeping him would probably just have served to create too many squad players who couldnt get game time.

Guly contributed to our promotion last season..not only in his midfield/attack role, but also by clearing a few balls as the last line of defence. Adkins sees him as an all rounder that he can use. I was, however, sorry to see Billy go...never seemed to quite fit in with our style, but got goals. Think we overpaid for Rodriguez, which means he would always be played ahead of Billy....having said that, was impressed by JRods work rate last night.

Billy is a great player and person but far too slow for the PL.

PS I know people will hate me for saying this but I don't care. The title of this thread should have started with "Should have been" not "Should of been".

I'm with you on that one Godders!

To answer the OP in much the same way everyone else has, no, Guly is a better player than Sharp in every department except finishing.

Sharp is a second rate Ted Macdougall, who at least knows where the second ball might drop in the area. Guly offers nothing at this level. So yes, Sharp would have been a better squad player..

Fair enough, just wanted to see what everyone's opinion was on Guly, mainly because I hear negative views about him from where I stand (Top of the Northam) but yeah I see where people are coming from about both player's strengths and weaknesses

PS Can't you let the title pass ? It's my first thread :p

Tbh I think Sharp could have done a better job then Rodriquez. But I guess we will never know now, as for Guly. He with a hell of alot of our players has been average at best.

Guly is a more flexible player, perhaps the most flexible player on the Saints.. That always carries value and makes him the better option coming off the bench as he could replace a more defensive-oriented midfielder if Saints need a goal, or he can replace a forward if defense is needed.

I don't think Guly should be starting, and I think Sharp was just fine and the Rodriguez purchase was not really necessary and could have been better used on a defender. But given what transpired and the option between Guly vs Sharp I would have also kept Guly and sent Sharp on loan.

Would love to see Sharp go on a tear and look a little more fit. I think he can play in the Premier League, at least as a rotation player but unfortunately it's looking like it won't be for Saints.

Guly has done as well as the rest of the squad IMO, it's just people don't like him so they use him as a scapegoat. Although that last bit isn't aimed at the OP who was at least constructive and fair in his analysis.

P.S I also noticed the grammatical error but didn't feel the need to correct you. :)

    Absolutely not.

If you can criticise Guly without good cause then we can find a good reason to criticise you.

Some of us miserable blighters on this site are very fussy about spelling and grammar and a great many of us like Guly.

By the way welcome and it is great to see you posting.
