What would your take on it be?
I don't really understand why anyone who eats meat will feel upity about they way Jews or Muslims kill an animal when they end up on our plates either way. Either shut up or become a vegetarian.

I've been a vegi for 50 years, but not because of the cruelty to animals part of things. The stuff just tastes like crap. But either way, stunning is a more humane way of dealing with the killing of live stock, but the bottom line is that they are still killed. Go visit a slaughter house, it's repulsive.

We should outlaw halal and kosher butchery and also the importing of such meat.

As someone who has killed literally thousands of animals while working in pharmaceutical research, the animals should be dispatched as humanely and with as much respect as possible.

Halal and kosher butchery is a method that cause huge stress to the animal.

I've killed thousands of animals, but it was as a teenager before I became a fully-fledged sex murderer

I used to be right into it. It's more of a pass-time now. The Balaclava rarely comes out the cupboard these days, unless Charlie & The Bhoys are in town <whistle>

Halal and Kosher method of killing, done right doesn't cause much pain.
And the supermaket should really state which is halal and kosher.
I am sure it wouldn't really bother their sales.
Let's be honest. I lived in east London with all their Halal PFCs and chippies.
They have many non-muslims going in there ordering Halal meat.

The way I see it, this "Humanely as possible" killing bullshit is just that.
People don't want to know that the animal suffered.
You know what? The animal had to die.
It suffers one way or another.
So if it makes you feel bad, then stop eating meat.
    Otherwise you are just hypocritical.

And I like to add, the "Ban Halal meat" seems to only become an issue because of Muslims.
But knowing the Muslims will kick up a fuss about this, you got to include Kosher meat.
At least on this issue the Jews and Muslims are united.

I don't know for sure, but I read someone it was due to the fact stunned meat retains more blood than Halal/Kosher meat.
Don't know how true it is.

I think it should be done in a more humane way by perhaps showing the animals naked photos of say russel grant or indeed susan boyle.. prior to slaughter.

Who's talking about pain? It's the stress it causes the animal that's inhumane. Lying there fully conscious while watching your blood pissing out of you as you collapse and die.

Stunned and captive bolt is far more humane. I've seen this done at close quarters. The animal is dead before it knows what the **** is going on. Less pain, less stress and minimal suffering. No one is saying don't eat meat but if the animals are going to be killed, best do it in the most ethical and efficient way.

Fairy stories are no reason to prolong an animal's death.

Ethics are based on what? What you might deem ethical, someone else might not.
    Efficient? Really?
I've not seen any reason why the death of the animal is any more "humane" in either sense or method.
One way is due to "fairy stories" others is for the person that is eating the meat to feel good about themselves.
