The match preview on Sky has us as having the second worst shots on goal count in the PL. Villa have the least with 56, next up is us with 61. We get into great positions regularly, we just never take the responsibility to have an effort on goal. I'm sure part of this is lack of continuity with selection, but still, you rarely see us shoot from distance. Must be a coaching instruction?
It's the "Arsenal Syndrome" play tippy tappy and walk it into the goal. Play Huddlestone at least 20 yards further up the field and tell him to shoot on sight.
Basically we create **** all these days. We aren't reluctant to shoot we just never work the space. It's mainly cos we don't have any strikers holding it up or making runs. If Jelavic and Hernandez were ever actually on the pitch for a run of games it'd be different I'm sure.
We don't shoot because we seem to have the mindset of having to be around the penalty spot and be able to see the whites of the keepers eyes.
I've seen a lot of pointless shots from silly positions this season (Aluko and Hernandez being the biggest culprits). I really don't think we need to be encouraging more of that. It's more a case of getting the right players into the best positions to shoot if it's more than 20 yards out. The stats mentioned earlier are shots on target, of course, not total shots. So yet more wild strikes from 30 yards out won't boost that tally. (We've actually had the fewest total shots of anyone - Villa are even more off-target than us.
Yep spot on. Huddlestone if he has the time is lethal from 20-30 yards, but he only gets into that space about once a season.
