There's an old and very important pricniple that Ellis Short will know about failure in any business, It's called the Turn Around. When failure happens, especially when it is large, clear out the whole place, from top to bottom, starting at the top. It works. It's the only way. Time to fall on the sword, Ellis.
What an absolute load of rubbish. Football cannot be measured in business terms as there is no definitive set of rules or quantifiable value to human effort in terms of target setting or output measurements. Short was sold into the club by Niall Quinn and he went along with Quinn's recommendations and plans. Our current plight can probably be traced back to the Quinn/Keane/Bruce eras where players received healthy wages and lenghty contracts that were the norm at the time. It has taken ES this length of time to get into the nuts and bolts of football, albeit on a long and bumpy path. But just about on each step of the way he has had guidance from those who were supposed to have healthier footballing knowledge than him. He has financially backed chairmen, managers, directors of football and coaches. He deserves a medal in my book.
I can't see how Short can be criticised at all to be honest. He's pumped millions into the club over the past 5-6 years. I bet he rues the day he met Quinny at the K-club at the ryder cup.
I predicted that Poyet will walk at the end of the season. well I really hope I am right. Look at his judgement. Persevered with Altidore.. wickham not perfect but showed him up signed Half pint bridcutt. championship class at best. signed vergini is as weak a centre back as you will find. Signed Scocco another milton nunez if ever there was one. In deep sht and no hope with a manager who keeps his England international on the bench until the 54 minute. Watch out Bournemouth we are coming although you need not worry too much
Short and Poyet get my 100% backing. If we go down (and I refuse to join the defeatist brigade. As it is not over yet), then we need these two to give us any chance of getting back up. We do not need a revolution (clear out and starting from scratch). We need an evolution (keep the players who want to stay and bring in young players with passion to fill the gaps). If we go down, then we need a strong mind set to get back up. Why do so many people turn on their own, when times are hard (We Are Sunderland). Stop booing and negative critisism. Perhaps the negative attitude of many Sunderland fans is the reason why this club can not get bigger.
Trevor, point taken, and a good one at that. However looking at our tenure in the Premier League it's been bumpy to say the least, I feel we need a buyer with real intent, and this will reflect the manager as well.
Gotta say, Short & Poyet absolutely do NOT have my 100% backing, how could anyone be fully behind the pair? So Ellis bought and stabilised he club, I get that, I understand it, he also placed a wage cap that lead to us losing Bent, Gyan and anybody else that looked decent. He stopped backing managers at Gyan, and purchases have been not only balanced, but have been in credit since, we are going down because yet again in this clubs history when we got to the point of competing under Bruce, the manager wasn't correctly backed, and we ended up spending £6million on folk like Gardner, rather than £8-10 million on genuine class. I don't 'blame' Short, I blame the players, but under Short we will never be anything other than also rans, he simply will not put up enough money to progress the club. I'd like him to try find a benefactor, although I would also say 'cheers' for keeping the club afloat. Poyet, again, well he's no footballing god is he? Team last night showed us that.
Just watched highlights back mind, and how the **** did we not win that? Catts, Borini, great chances.
Both could have been given mate, although neither was a deffo. The Catts chance was the one, mind Borini was for 2-2 with 20 mins left, we'd surely have won. **** man. Hard to take this, but we just have to accept it and come back brighter.
And if Ellis walks who do you think will come. The billionaires are lined up to buy us out and invest the 100 millions to make us the next Man City. People need to get real. We are Sunderland and the last few years were the most successful we have seen in 50 years. Simply being in the premier league is success. Yes we all want to be a top 10 side, but lots of other clubs also want it. Stop the negatives. Stop getting on the backs of the lads at every mistake. Stop being defeatist and try to lift the club. We need to be together for the last games. Show respect. The players are human. Shouting abuse and not supporting the team will demotivate and we will self destruct.
Are you a woman? Often women are bitchy about other womens (especially more successful womens) apperaenc.e.e
The players are to blame. Poyet can shoulder some of it too but Short should be seeing far greater rewards for what he's done for the club.
