I think Shola may have just hit on a genuine master plan to help get us out of this mess of potential relegation. Shola quoted as saying: "This is a team that's supported very vigorously, which is great for us as players, but flip that around and when things aren't going quite as well as you'd like it can become a pressure cooker. But that's the game of football and something as players we have to deal with, and the team that deals with it the best - that copes under the severest pressures - is the team that will stay up." Where we go wrong - and where Wigan have had it right for years - is the fans! Each year, Wigan survive what appears to be unavoidable relegation. Why? No fans! Nobody to put pressure on them. Empty stadium, leaving the team to play free-flowing, open football and catch other teams by surprise. They can enter the field virtually care-free of the outcome and so long as thy attempt to play good football, they will get praise from their manager. We on the other hand create an atmosphere thart demands a performance. The players have pressure piled on before they even start the game. So one or two early errors with the crowd making noise and that's it. Heads go. Our master plan For the final games of the season, I say we send 50,000 down to 'vigorously support' Wigan and help send the buggers down! Simples.
That's where Pardew's tactics have been found wanting, he continues to play people that are blind and not deaf.
This wretched bastard should be thanking some divine power that he's been playing in front of so many people for thirteen years. Lucky isn't the word.
Good post Obi, very witty and would be funny if it wasn't laughable. Do we as fans put the team under undue pressure ? Have we booed them ? Have we stayed away in droves ? Have we publicly demanded the managers head ? No, we have not... Have we had the audacity to expect the shirt to be worn with pride, and every game even those we lose to be played with heart and fighting spirit. Yes we have...... Shame on us then, Mr Ameobi...and tell you what, if that sorry excuse of a team, of which you are one, and definitely shoulder some of the blame, had half as much passion as the fans, we would be flying. My advice would be shut up and put up, because you'll miss us when we are gone.
If you read the whole piece from him, he seems to be having a bit of pop at certain players "we have to make sure we have brave men out there for the run in". I'm highly critical of Shola and his ****eness but at least he is man enough to call it as it was on Saturday. He's right, we had some real bottlers.
Just sick and tired of these gutless cliched platitudes, week in and week out. I personally don't want to hear another lame ass excuse about how much it's hurting and how they need to come out fighting. Before l use language unbecoming my gender and standing, why oh why don't you just freaking do it ! Before it's too damn late. Ps l am a bit cross right now, l hope l don't get angry or else they had better start running lol.
I'm normally quite reserved in my language but after reading some of the comments from Shola, other players and that idiot in charge i'm not going to pull any punches. Sick of these bloody players with their worthless soundbites promising so much and delivering nothing. Paid thousands of pounds each week to take the piss out of every single fan with gutless displays. Shola needs to thank his lucky stars that he's been playing at the top for 13 years whilst being one of the biggest piles of s**t to every wear a black and white shirt. As for the others they need to take their heads out of their arses and start showing a bit of fight because if these prima donnas actually gave 110% when it mattered we wouldn't be in the position we're in. We the fans support the team week in week out. Spend thousands each year on season tickets/ match tickets, to travel the length and breadth of the country (and Europe this season) to support our club. What have we been given this season in return? Utter ****e. The players need to shut their goddamned faces this week and keep a low profile after that abject pile of **** on Saturday. Every single one of them should be ashamed of themselves for insulting the fans of this club with that garbage. 'We'll put it right' 'we know you're hurting'. Seriously **** right off! We're not interested in your words. Stick them where the sun doesn't shine. Get out on the pitch on Saturday and deliver a performance. Deliver three cup final performances to keep us in the Premier League. They really can shove their apologies because they have it easy and are really are taking the piss. Alan Pardew - Don't get me started on this clown. He has the utter GALL to say that the criticism after the derby match was unwarranted. Excuse me? Taking a pop at the fans for being just a little bit peeved that we had been humiliated by our biggest rivals at home. The guy is an absolute tit. We have had some parasites at this club but even he gives a whole meaning to ******. His tactics are ridiculous, a joke. He's been sacked at just about every club he's been at it. A one trick pony, one season wonder. He obviously doesn't have a clue what he is doing (playing people out of position, playing stupid formations that obviously don't work and persisting with players who have been **** since the start of the season - yes, particularly aimed at Jonas). He also insists on using every excuse known to man to blame everything and everyone but himself. Europe, injuries (ok that washed for a little while) and then they started bordering on the absurd. The pitch at West Brom. Are you kidding me?????? He is a terrible manager who Is unable to effect games when needed. He's lost most fans after Saturday and should do the decent thing and leave at the end of the season.
Must be the red hair Obi, firery temperament but cute with it. X Just a typical Geordie Lass when all is said and done. Love the Toon, but could cheerfully throttle the lot of them right now.
Agree with most of the comments made here, but I think there is something in the comments from Shola. Couldn't get up for the game last weekend, but the nerves/pressure/atmosphere were noticeable even on the telly - discussed it with my Dad (who was at the game) and we both came to the conclusion that we're glad our next two games are away from home as we think we'll play better. Being the passionate lot that we are sometimes doesn't always provide the best atmosphere to play in, especially when things aren't going well. How the players cope with this will be telling come the end of the season.
